IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Last weekend was beautiful and the first time all spring that the weather actually was warm (70 degrees and I'll take it). Dave was gone all weekend to the Rose Cup races in Portland announcing the race, and I stayed home to take advantage of the weather and to work out in the yard. Believe it or not, by Sunday night we both were suffering from sunburns!
Unfortunately, the weather didn't last. By Monday, it was raining again. Whoever is doing the rain dance around here can stop anytime! Just for some background, we have had the wettest June on record - and the month's only half over! The weatherman has gotten our hopes up so many times promising "sunny" weather, that I have given up believing him. He's already changed the forecast for this weekend from "sunny" to "oops". The slugs are enjoying this dampness and I have been putting out slug bait and killing a few of them. They love my marigolds and pansies.
Besides watching the weeds grow and enjoying the antics of the birds and squirrels that have been entertaining us, not much has been happening. I do have fun playing a game with one of our resident Stellar Jays. When I go out in the morning to put all the feeders out, I place a single peanut on the fence. He sits in the tree and waits for me to do this and then he'll come and get it every time, sometimes even before I'm able to get my hand away! Julio (our resident squirrel) must have slipped up and blabbed about how abundant the food supply is at the Bell's because now we have three squirrels and a few chipmunks competing for the turf. What fun it is to watch them chase each other around!
I'm pretty sure I have been overdoing it around here (was that me who said that?) because I now have tendonitis in my elbow and my knee has been locking up on me. I also missed a step coming out of the barn on Wednesday and now have a slight sprain in my ankle. I decided to take a few days off to recoup before I do anymore damage to myself. Dave gets a kick out of me because I don't EVER give in to aches and pains. But I feel like I have been run over by a truck with all my woes and so sitting around the house for a few days might rejuvenate me. But the boredom is killing me! In addition to the famous "I'm almost done" that Dave says he's going to put on my tombstone, I've now added "I think I'll take it easy today" to that list. He doesn't believe me whenever I say either one!
We had to make a run to Warrenton to get the oil changed on the Jeep. We also had a couple of other issues on the car for them to take care of. One was Dave's electronic key wasn't working to unlock or lock the doors and the seat belt light kept coming on and "fasten seat belt" alarm kept dinging while I was driving down the road. That was driving me crazy! So on Tuesday we had an appointment to get these things taken care of. We arrived at our allotted time and told them we would wait in the lobby while they serviced the car. After a three-hour wait, Dave is sitting there when his phone rings, it's the service manager telling us our car was ready! It was funny because we were sitting about 10 feet from the service counter and I could hear the guy talking on the telephone to Dave and then Dave answering him. I guess he forgot we were waiting in the lobby. We had to bring the car back in yesterday as they had to order the part for the seat belt ($200). In the "don't-get-me-started" category, why isn't a simple thing like a seat belt buckle covered on our "bumper-to-bumper" extended warranty? Anyway, on our return trip, we ran a couple of errands and then stopped for dinner at the Pizza Garden on the way home.
My water aerobics class is between semesters this week and will begin again on Monday. I haven't been doing much in the way of exercise, unless you can count yard work. The NCRD Summer Program schedule arrived in the mail and our class made the publication. I don't know if you can spot me in this picture or not (I'm the third from the lower left corner), but it is one of the warm-up exercises we do called the "dancer" where we grab our leg and extend it behind us. It took some practice to be able to balance myself while doing this without drowning and I certainly wouldn't be able to do it outside of the water! I really enjoy this class and I can't think of a better way to start my day. I can't wait to get back at it next week!
On to the church project. Today, the roofers are to begin to repair the leaky parts of the roof, which means replacing most of the back half. They should be done by tomorrow. After that is done, Dave and Ray will begin to put the vapor barrier over the dirt, replace the monster floor beams, put in all new floor joists and then put the floor back in. So, you see there is still a lot to be done on the old building, but once we make it rainproof, there will be no hurry. Both Dave and Ray have boats that need their attention, so there may be more of that done in the next few weeks that carpentry work on the church.
We really don't have a lot planned for the next few weeks, at least things that will take us out of town. We both have doctor's appointments, but that hardly counts. We are planning on attending another play this weekend, our third in three weeks! This one is in Tillamook and is called, "Sex Please, We're Sixty". It sounds like a hoot and I will let you know about it.
