IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Please, please, when will it ever stop raining? With last night's storm, we've now hit our average rainfall for the entire month of June - and we're only four days into the month! I think I will call this month Junuary instead of June! May was one of the wettest on record too, so you can see why we're getting so tired of it. I haven't even been able to get the rest of my garden in and I am so depressed about that. We have already had one "winter" storm earlier this week and another one last night. I had to bring all my hanging flower baskets indoors so that the branches wouldn't get broken off. I went out and saved what was left of my snow peas that got blown off the netting on the fence. The other flowers that I have managed to plant are just sitting in the ground shivering. I don't know whether to start building my ark or what!
To talk about brighter things, we went to see a play at the Coaster Theater in Cannon Beach last Friday. It was called "Almost, Maine" and was a series of romantic skits that were really done well. We had never been to this theater before and we enjoyed it very much. Of course, we went out to dinner before the play and that made the evening complete. When we dropped our membership in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival after 25 seasons last year, we promised ourselves that we would try to get out to see some local theater instead. We'll go see a performance with Dave's theater group on Saturday (Dave's not in this one) and then we see another play in Tillamook on the 19th, so I guess we're making good on our promise!
Ashtin's soccer team went to Eugene for a tournament and they won first place! We weren't able to go, so Leslie sent us a picture. She's the second from the left in the top row. It's been so hard for us to get to any of the grandgirl's games this year. We promised them we would, and then something always came up. I really wish we could have seen them play this year.
Lara, Greg and the grandchildren came down last weekend for the long Memorial Day weekend. I always enjoy having them come visit. The rain let up enough for them to get on their swimming suits and head for the beach one day while they were here. The rest of the time it rained, so they went up to Seaside to the amusement park and rode on a few rides. Even the two-year old had a great time on the Tilt-a-Whirl. Of course they always get to stop in at the candy store and load up on all kinds of sweets. When they weren't out and about, they stayed inside here at the house and played on the Wii.
I have been busy watching my little feathered friends at the feeders. Dave always gives me a bad time about the cost to feed the birds but they are a wonderful source of entertainment. However, I wasn't too pleased to see a deer make his way to the feeder earlier this week. I had to chase Bambi away as he devoured most of the seeds with one lick of his tongue. First I had the raccoons and then the flock of pigeons, now I have deer to contend with! We did get some legitimate newcomers to the feeders this week. A couple of pairs of Evening Grosbeaks arrived and a mother Redheaded Woodpecker was busy feeding her baby some suet. So there is some entertainment around to keep my mind off the weather.
Dave and Ray worked on the church project for a couple of days this week (when the weather permitted). They're still working on the north and east walls and while they were doing that, they discovered more rotted wood under the front part of the north wall. They didn't want to pull up any more flooring than they already have (2/3 of it is gone), so they got under the floor and jacked it up enough to get the old mud sill out and replace it with new. They were successful in doing that, but it took the better part of the two days they worked, so they didn't get much else done. By the time they finished yesterday though, they had the new mud sill in place under both walls and with another day or two of work, they should be able to FINALLY lower the entire building down onto it's new foundation. I'm pretty sure there's a party scheduled when that happens!
We got a phone call yesterday from Lara, saying that Jaysa had her one-year MRI and checkup after last year's surgery. We won't know the outcome until the first of the week, but she passed the six-month check with flying colors, so we're really not concerned. She is going to have to have these checkups for the foreseeable future though. It's hard to believe that it's been a year since she had that tumor removed.
Saturday, we will be heading into Gales Creek to a planning meeting and picnic for Dave's Benson High School class reunion, which will be in August. He's not on the organizing committee, but he is helping get people registered and he'll be the emcee at the reunion, so we were invited to this meeting. My class reunion is this year too, but not until September.
The weatherman has promised nicer weather for the weekend and next week, but I have been lied to before.
