IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Boy, has Mother Nature thrown some stormy weather our way. I thought March was supposed to go out like a lamb. The first of the week brought high winds (Dave's weather station clocked the winds at 45 mph at our house, and the computer showed 80+ over on the beach) and it sounded like someone turned the hose on the roof as the rain pelted down so hard. We had to get out and unplug one of our gutters because the water was rushing over the sides so fast it looked like a waterfall. When the blue skies and sun finally did appear I was almost afraid to notice because it might frighten them away. After the storm, I gathered up all the debris in the yard and replaced the window screens that had been blown off. Fortunately, the lights only flickered once, but it was just enough to affect the digital clocks and so we had to reset everything.
Before the stormy weather hit, Leslie and the girls came down to visit for the day on Sunday. Jason was in California for a weeklong training session, so the gals decided to get in the car and come on down. They got down here about noon and stayed for the afternoon. They are so busy with all of their activities and their animals that they just don't get a chance to get away very often, so this was a nice visit. They left here around 4:00 and they got out of here just in time, because the wind and rain started to pick up just as soon as they left.
It has been a rough week for them. A fellow police officer and a good friend of theirs was shot several times while investigating a burglary this week in Woodburn. John is a regular at their house, and so we have become acquainted with him as well. He was severely injured, but will survive, and for that we are extremely grateful. Jason interrupted his training and jumped on a plane as soon as he heard what happened, so he has been back here since shortly after the incident.
With all of the stormy weather going on outside, we managed to get some more work done inside on the church project. I helped pick up the pieces of sheetrock and old pieces of wood and placed them in the trailer to be hauled off to the dump and the burn pile. Ray and Dave managed to lift the roof a few more inches and listened to it moan and groan all the while. They were afraid the high winds that we were having would blow the roof off, but they secured it pretty well during the storm and it survived. Ray and Dave are looking for the cheapest possible lumber they can find and with all of their resources, they are hopeful they will come up with some good buys as this project will have to be completed as cheaply as possible. They took a drive to Bay City where Habitat for Humanity has a "Re-Store", where they sell donated building materials. They came home with about a hundred dollars worth of lumber for about $35.00. The rest of the material we've had to buy has kept the local lumber company very happy - we've had them deliver stuff by the truckload twice this week! And it was a lot more than $35.00!!
Wednesday we took the day off from working on the church because we had to run into Portland for a Blazer broadcast. Even though we weren't planning to spend the night in West Linn, I rode in with Dave, as I wanted to do something with my granddaughter who will be seven years old on Saturday. So I dropped Dave off at the Rose Garden and headed for West Linn. After Jadyn got out of school, we drove over to Clackamas Town Center where she picked out a couple of outfits before I took her to dinner at Red Robin. That's always fun because they acknowledge birthdays with a song and a hot fudge sundae. Jadyn got a kick out of that and was excited to be able to enjoy her birthday a few days early.
It was back to my water aerobics class this week as we started our spring session. Our instructor had taken a class while we were on spring break last week, so she had some new moves for us. I guess it is always nice to break up our routine but it is also nice to know what to expect when I'm half asleep in class. I don't have to think, just do it! I am still trying to arrive a few minutes before class as they have lap swimming going on and if there is an open lane, I grab a board and kick my way down the lane for a couple of laps. I am also still working out on the Wii each day and even though I am not losing weight very fast, I can sure feel the difference in my balance.
We aren't doing anything special for Easter this year. Gosh, I haven't even been up in the attic to get any of my Easter decorations down this year. I found out that there are some friends of ours who didn't have any plans either, so I invited them down for an "Easter Orphans" ham dinner on Sunday afternoon. It should be fun. I hope everyone has a great day.
