IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!
It's finally here. I am as ready as I will ever be. All the presents have been purchased, wrapped and are ready to be opened. The Christmas cards have been mailed and the remainder of the cookies have been eaten. We made it through another one! I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas were able to enjoy the day with your family and loved ones.
After Mother Nature decided to turn the hoses off, the sun finally came out for a few days. One thing about living in the Northwest in the winter is that you really appreciate the sun when it shines. The weather has been really nice and gave me encouragement to do a little yard work catch up. I was able to get outside and rake up the remainder of the fall leaves and pruned some of the dead flowers back from my perennials. It really felt good to get outside after having been confined to the indoors for it seems like forever.
We were invited to yet another party this week. All of the city councilors and their families got together for a little celebration on Monday evening. It was a fun get-together. This year has been a record number of parties for us. I've been trying to stay on my diet, but it's so hard with all those goodies at every event. So now that most of the celebrations are over, I can go back to the good eating habits I learned in my nutrition class. I'm already back on the treadmill and the Wii, so hopefully I can pick up where I left off before the holidays.
I had what was supposed to be my final post-op doctor's appointment on Monday, so I left the house before daylight. My checkup was at 9:30 in Beaverton and it takes a couple of hours to make the trip. The checkup was okay but I still have a little healing to get through and so I will have to go back to see the doctor again at the end of January.
Dave was busy at the end of last week and the first of this week with interviews for a city office job and a new public works operator. There were lots of applicants but they managed to cut each list down to five applicants and after four days of interviews, they made their final decisions. Both hires are local, so everyone was happy about the outcome.
We packed our bags and headed for town on Thursday to celebrate the holiday with our kids. We arrived in town early enough so that we could attend the Christmas play at 4:00 p.m. that Lara's two older girls were in. They were singing and have been practicing for quite awhile for this event and it was very nice. Afterwards, we went to our favorite Chinese restaurant to celebrate.
Dave has a Blazer broadcast tonight so I am going to attend the game with him. Lara and her family have plans for Christmas night, and so I'm taking advantage of their absence to go to a game. I've been to parts of a few games this season but I've wanted to get to go to an entire game and this will be a good opportunity. The team has been playing pretty well lately in spite of the fact that they have so many injuries. Nearly half the team is injured and I think there are something like only eight guys left on the roster.
Other things scheduled for this weekend: Dave and I are going out to dinner Saturday night. We have a gift certificate to a nice restaurant and we figured we'd better go before it expires! Then the next day, we will have the whole family together at Leslie's to open more presents. We will be going back home after that and we'll be taking our two oldest granddaughters with us for a few days.
Dave got the grandkids ready for bed on Christmas Eve the same way he has since our girls were that age...by reading Clement Moore's "The Night Before Christmas". After 30-plus years, he pretty well knows it by heart and he really throws everything into his reading! I guess he hasn't lost his touch...he had all three of them following every word!
