IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

The countdown begins, only 21 days before Christmas! Would you believe that I have all my shopping done and my presents wrapped? That's what happens when you get old and you have a lot of time on your hands! I still have some decorating to do and goodies to bake. I also don't have my Christmas letter ready to go. It's written, but still needs some finishing touches. Hey, I have to have something to do for the next three weeks!

Gingerbread House Gingerbread House We had a great Thanksgiving and Lara and I went shopping on Black Friday. Actually, she got up at 4:30 a.m. to be there when the doors opened. Not me! She was disappointed because by the time she got there, everybody had already loaded up their carts and there was a HUGE line waiting for the checkout to open. She returned home empty handed and later that morning, we took off together and had much better luck. I think she got most of her shopping done too. When we returned, we supervised the decorating of the gingerbread house with the girls which they enjoyed doing very much. Even little Jordyn got involved. She didn't understand that you were supposed to put the gumdrops on the house and not in your mouth.

After we got home from Portland, we got caught up with the mail (we have received our first Christmas card already) and the newspaper. We were both tired and were in bed early that night.

I headed into Tillamook on Tuesday for some shopping and to buy the granddaughter's savings bonds for Christmas. I do this every year for the holiday and for their birthdays. Anyway, the Credit Union in Tillamook had moved to their new location and so I found that and got a parking spot for the car. Did I mention that it was a stormy day and that the wind was blowing real hard? Well, it was. While I was getting out of the car, all the forms for the savings bonds blew all over the parking lot. I had a grand time chasing after them. I try to get the forms all filled out before I head into buy the bonds as it saves me time. So after I collected them all and got into the bank, I wasn't in a very festive mood. Then the teller was explaining to me that she couldn't open my account without a membership number. I didn't have any problem last year doing it, as I tried to explain that to her. As it turns out, your checking account number is the same as your membership number. So why didn't she just say that? I am sure going to remember that next year when I go back in to do it again. Anyway, I apologized for my "bad" mood after I told her what I had gone through prior to coming into the bank.

Train Station Downtown Dave headed back into Portland for another Blazer game on Tuesday and I opted to stay home. When he returned on Wednesday, we helped put up the Christmas tree lights in Wheeler. They had put lights on the fir tree in the park, on the train station and up and down the highway through town. The phone company came and mounted the lights on all the telephone poles with their bucket truck, so everything looks real festive in our little village. Everyone got so excited about the look, that we had an impromptu "tree lighting" ceremony later that evening and we joined everyone at the Waterfront Park for cookies, brownies and hot cider. We managed to put that function together in about three hours. Who says Wheeler isn't a party town?

I got a surprise in the mail earlier this week. I received a jury duty summons for the month of January for the Circuit Court in Tillamook County. That is more of an inconvenience than anything, as I can't make any plans at all for the entire month. I don't have to serve for the whole month, I just have to be in town and ready when the call my name. I decided to get it over with instead of deferring it until later. I might as well do my civic duty and get it over with. If I postpone it, I'd still have to do it later in the year and looking at my calendar, January really is the best month to get it out of the way.

Following my surgery a month ago, I am feeling better each day and am anxious to start exercises again. I have managed to keep off the pounds that I have shed but I am getting tired of just lazing around all the time. I have one more appointment with the doctor on December 21st and I can hardly wait. I'm hoping I can get back on the treadmill and the Wii, and water aerobics starts the first week in January.
