IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I spent most of last weekend by myself, as Dave left on Saturday for a couple of Blazer games and didn't return home until midnight Monday night. I ran down to Tillamook on Saturday to get some groceries and a few Christmas presents checked off my list. I also finished the book that I had been reading, but other than that, I really didn't do too much.
Monday night, my driving partner and I ventured up to Seaside for our final nutrition class. The weather was so bad a week ago that we canceled the trip. It was a lot calmer this time and we had no problems getting there. Since we weren't the only ones that didn't brave the elements last week (only one person showed up for the class) our instructor combined two classes in one on Monday. We still managed to get out of class a half an hour early. I really enjoyed the class and the instructor was exceptional. I managed to lose about 20 pounds altogether and with the holidays approaching; it is really going to be a challenge to keep motivated. I won't be able to continue with my exercise classes for another couple of weeks or until the doctor gives me the okay, but if I can stay at around 20 pounds, I feel I'll be able to pick up where I left off when I'm able to start exercising again.
When Dave got home, he presented me with a dozen eggs from our granddaughter Paige's chickens. He had gone to Silverton to visit Leslie's family between games on Sunday and brought the eggs back with him. Two of the eggs were huge, in fact they had double yokes, so I really got my money's worth. We had the two big ones for breakfast the next morning.
For the two days that Dave was home and the weather was cooperating, we (or I should say Dave, because he did most of the work) cleaned our overflowing gutters. I had gotten this new tool for cleaning out the gutters and it worked really great. It took us about an hour to do both sides with him climbing up the ladder and handing me the bucket full of nasty, smelly, guck from the gutters to empty. Not a pleasant job, but it costs a fortune to have someone come in and do it for us. I also managed to get some of my shrubs pruned while the weather was nice. It felt good just to be outside since our weather was nice.
We came back into town on Wednesday as Dave had a Blazer broadcast that night. Then it was Thanksgiving in Silverton with the kids on Thursday and then back to the Blazers again tonight. We will go home Saturday morning. I dropped Dave off at the Rose Garden on Wednesday afternoon so I could have the car to do some more Christmas shopping. I was really pleased with myself for accomplishing all I did in such a short period of time. I dropped Dave off at 4:00 p.m., battled traffic to Clackamas Town Center to check off some more items from my Christmas list, a shopping stop at Fred Meyer and then over to Lara and Greg's in time for dinner at 5:30! Then it was back to the Rose Garden by 9:00 p.m. to pick Dave up after the game.
We had a lovely Thanksgiving at Leslie and Jason's. He is a great cook and we had the best dinner ever. He makes this mushroom dressing that is out of this world. I tried to only eat one portion of everything and it was hard to keep on track. I guess we are allowed to overdo once in awhile. My nutrition instructor is a realist and says that if we can be "good" 80% of the time, we'll do OK. This week I'm definitely in the other 20%! It's back to healthy eating tomorrow, believe me!
We really do have a lot to be thankful for this year. Considering the cancer scare we had with Jaysa last June, everyone still holding on to their jobs in a tough economy and the granddaughters doing well in school and keeping healthy. I guess that is what is most important in life anyway.
While we had the family together we had to get a couple of pictures of Ashtin holding her new BB gun and of Jadyn and Ashtin sporting missing teeth. They both managed to lose a tooth for the tooth fairy in the past couple of days. Jadyn scored by just putting her tooth under her pillow, but 10-year-old Ashtin had some "long awaited" questions for her parents about childhood beliefs. Let's just say she's going to look at Christmas a little differently this year. It seems like only yesterday that we were trying to coax her as a two-year-old to pose with Santa...where does the time go?
