IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I guess the topic this week is storms. We have had them hit us one after the other all week. The first one hit on Monday and we lost electricity briefly three times. After the first two times, I went around and re-set all the clocks, but when the power went out again right after doing that for the second time, I figured I would wait until everything settled down. We fired up the gas stove, put out all our flashlights, some candles and oil lamps and we were to ready hunker down for the duration. We clocked the wind on our weather gauge at well over 40 mph at one point. It rained so hard it woke us up during the middle of the night. I think we've had something like 8 inches of rain this week. Also the tides were high this week and with the flooding river, the island in the bay in front of our house was completely submerged. The two storms since that one haven't been as strong. Either that or else I am just getting used to them.

Needless to say, my riding buddy and I decided not to go to class on Monday night because of the weather. The idea of driving over Neah-kah-nie Mountain in a hurricane just didn't appeal to me. It turned out to be a good decision as part of Highway 101 south of Seaside was under water and there was also a tree across the highway near Cannon Beach! I could just picture us getting to class and then not being able to get home afterward. We have our final class next Monday and I hope the weather has improved by then. Speaking of my class, I have lost about 20 pounds so far and feel great. I haven't been able to exercise since my surgery (doctor's orders) so as soon as I get the all-clear signal, it's back to the treadmill and aerobics classes. Dave has been really helpful around the house, he has been doing all the heavy lifting, making the bed, and I even got him to vacuum the rugs! Maybe I'll milk this situation for a while longer! Not really, I am anxious to get back to normal again. I have been sitting around reading books much too long!!

We had to go into town on Wednesday, I had a post-op appointment with my doctor and Dave had a Blazer game. We ran into a skiff of snow up on the Coast Range, but nothing to talk about. While we were in town, we did a little early Christmas shopping. It is so nice to be able to shop at the mall without a trillion people around and to be able to actually find a parking spot. I'm sure that will all end next week when Black Friday gets here! After our shopping stop, Dave dropped me off at Lara's house, which was all locked up. Normally they leave the garage door unlocked when they know we are coming to town, but this time we had to use our key to get in. Apparently, the other morning, some deranged meth user was out in the street in front of their house in the pouring rain acting strange. (Do they ever act any other way?) They called the police who came and investigated. They didn't arrest the guy because he didn't have any drugs on him and he wasn't trespassing on private property. It was only later that the police found that they had a warrant out for his arrest, but they haven't been able to find him since then. So security is pretty tight around the Dewey household. They live in a pretty nice neighborhood too.

As we were getting ready to leave yesterday morning, the girls came downstairs to say goodbye before they headed out the door for daycare and school. They couldn't find us, so they came looking. I had just finished a shower and I heard a tiny knock on the door. Three little heads came around the bathroom door and said "Goodbye, Grandma". I said goodbye and told them to go see Grandad. Since he had come in at midnight, he was still in bed, but said all three of them trooped into the bedroom to give hugs and goodbyes. Gotta love it! It was the first time that 20-month-old Jordyn had joined that parade!

I talked with my sister, Jeanne and she is so relieved that her middle son, Jesse and his family are safely back in the U.S. from their 9-month missionary work in Northern China. It has been a real test of faith to be able to live in the conditions that they were in and they finally decided the cultural change wasn't worth it. They are now living back in Phoenix and have bunked in with Michelle's parents until they can get back on their feet. It was a good experience for them and they really have a lot to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. We will be heading down to Leslie's place for the big day. We have to be in town again next week for a couple of Blazer broadcasts (one on Wednesday and another on Friday) so it worked out for us this year. I hope everyone has a great day with family and friends.
