IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I didn't do a whole heck of a lot this week.
We came home last Thursday and received a phone call from our daughter, Lara who warned us that Jadyn had come down with the H1N1 flu the day we left and so we were all exposed to that. Fortunately, Jadyn has had her swine flu shot a few days before, so it didn't hit her too hard. She was just down for a couple of days and by the weekend she was pretty much back to her old self again. I wasn't feeling very good all weekend either, but it wasn't the flu, just a cold. By Monday, I was okay, a little congested, but by then Dave was feeling kind of punky. He had no energy at all. But we are both feeling healthy again. This H1N1 has got everyone on edge.
I got a call Sunday evening to let me know that the pool was once again in operation. I was looking forward to going back to my aerobics classes after a week of shutdown. I was all dressed and was about ready to leave Monday morning when I got a phone call from my friend who also swims, saying the pool was still shut down. The pool people hadn't got the chemicals for the water right and so there was another day of delay. But by Tuesday, everything was functioning and so off I went. It sure felt great to be back in action again.
The weather has been a real bummer this week. We decided to get the rest of the deck furniture put away and I moved all my flowerpots under the eaves to protect them from the wind. It was a good thing that I did because it rained and blew so hard all week with just a brief tease of the sun. Dave snapped this shot of a hard shower coming over Neah-kah-nie Mountain. A minute later, it was raining so hard we couldn't hear ourselves think! I have spent most of my time in the recliner reading a good book.
Tuesday, Dave had to go into town for the Trail Blazers home opener. Even though he's had broadcasts all through the pre-season, this was the first one where he was working alongside the TV crew, so he left early to make sure there were no problems. All went well, the Blazers won and he was able to leave early enough to drive home that night. It was a long day though. He got home at midnight and slept until 10 the next morning!
Halloween is just around the corner and I couldn't let the holiday go by without carving my pumpkin. I just wish that we had some scary ghosts and goblins come knocking at our door on Halloween because I just love to see all the costumes that the kids come up with. There aren't any kids in our neighborhood though, so we go without. I know that my granddaughters are looking forward to Halloween. Our oldest is going as a Sumo wrestler and her sister is a vampire. The other three were telling me that they were going to be a witch, Pooh Bear and a ladybug. Oh to be young again!!
I had to help "Feed the Masses" on Wednesday as a volunteer Red Cross exercise. We had to prepare the food in Manzanita and then transport it to Tillamook to the Salvation Army where we fed 125 people who were there to collect food at the food bank. It is quite an experience to witness first hand the perils that some folks have to go through during this hard time. It really makes you thankful for what you have.
Dave had a successful two performances last weekend on the play that they are doing. They performed Friday night and again on Saturday and will perform this weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Since I was sick last weekend, I plan on going Friday night. He was telling me that while he was over at the recycle center in Manzanita the other day, a couple of ladies were whispering behind his back "there is one of the actors from the play we saw!" They jokingly asked for his autograph...at least he thinks they were joking! If this keeps up, his ego is going to burst!
Next Monday is my surgery and I will be spending the night in the hospital. Since Dave has his cast party Sunday evening after the final performance, we're going to wait until Monday morning to leave home. We'll have to leave Wheeler at 4:00 since I have to be at the hospital in Beaverton at 5:30 a.m. It is nothing major, just a little overhaul. I do have to take it easy for about 4 weeks, but that is why I planned this surgery in November when the weather is bad. That way I won't feel frustrated about not being able to work in the yard and can just stay inside with a good book while I recover.
Happy Halloween!!!
