IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We wound up the week last week with Dave's theater activities taking all weekend. He had performances Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon. Then we went to the cast party Sunday evening. Sometimes I think the only reason those people go through all the rehearsals and performances is just to have a party after it's all over! It was a nice get-together though and I always meet new people as a result, so it was a lot of fun.
We have been busy all week getting ready for our kids to come down for the holidays. We got the lawn all mowed and even got some brush removed along side the old church. That is until a couple of snakes ran me out! I HATE snakes. Actually, they were the ones running the other way but just the same they startled me. The garden is coming along nicely. I may even get some produce before the summer is over. My tomatoes that I planted in the greenhouse are touching the rooftop and they are starting to have tomatoes set out them. We are eating the snow peas and lettuce, which are so good fresh out of the garden.
My aerobics water classes started up again this week. We had a bunch of newbies the first day and I really had to fight for my position in the pool. Everyone has their favorite spot and some of us really get territorial. By Wednesday most of the newbies had given up and so it wasn't so crowded and we were back to the same ladies who come all the time.
On Wednesday, I took a break and went into Tillamook to get a pedicure and my nails done. After that, I made a couple of stops for some groceries and picked up a Wii computer game. We first saw the Wii at Stan & Terrie's a few months ago, and thought it would be a fun thing to have. They were on sale this week, so we decided to get one. I guess it was kind of my birthday present. At least we can use that as an excuse for getting the thing. The grandkids are having a great time playing all the sports games on it and I think Dave and I will enjoy it too. We also picked up the Wii Fit platform to go with it. That might even get us in shape if we use it regularly.
Thursday was my 67th birthday and Lara and Greg came down with their kids on Wednesday for the week. Greg's birthday is the same day as mine so we always celebrate together. Leslie and her girls came down too and we had a great time. I got "Happy Birthday" sung to me by the girls in my aerobics class, so that was a lot of fun. I got some real nice presents too. Dave gave me an expensive pair of pruning shears (I keep losing mine somewhere out side) and I think that since these new pair are so nice, I really want to keep my eyes on them when I am busy pruning. I also got three Hosta plants from Leslie's family. Two of the plants are variegated with white on them and the other one is a deep blue-green. I also got a garden caddy from Lara's family and the latest Janet Evanovich book "Fearless Fourteen". I have read and enjoyed every one of her books.
The rest of the week we have been busy getting the Captain Bell ready for the Manzanita Fourth of July parade on Saturday. We took out all the deck plates and I scrubbed the oil and grease off of them. While the deck plates were drying in the sun, we tackled the bilge (the bottom of the boat) and removed as much of the gunk and dirt off that. We haven't paid much attention to the bilge for the past couple of years and it was beginning to look like it. As Dave put it, "My Dad always said you are not going to serve dinner in it!" But it does look cleaner and I am sure both of his parents would be proud of us for keeping the boat looking so nice. Jadyn and Jaysa helped Granddad put the deck plates back in place. After that, I also put a coat of bottom paint on the outside of the hull as it was beginning to look a little banged up and oil stained. We will polish brass today and decorate it.
I hope everyone has a great FOURTH OF JULY!!
