IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!
First of all, thanks again for all your prayers and support during the ordeal that we have all been through. We are so blessed to have great friends and family. Our little Jaysa is remarkable. She came home from the hospital last Saturday and by Tuesday was ready to go back to preschool to see all her friends. Looking back on it, the whole thing just doesn't seem real. One day, we're worried about her having cancer and facing a dangerous operation and a week later, she's back in school as if nothing had happened! She's obviously not 100% yet, but everything...and I do mean EVERYTHING... is so much better than it could have been that a little discomfort is gladly accepted. It is so wonderful to be able to heal so quickly when you are young. If you missed this whole story, go to the May 29th entry in the journal. It's all there.
I am finally over my bronchitis and beginning to feel good again. It feels great to be back home and settling into my old routine. I got back into my water aerobics class and have been busy trying to catch up on the yard work around the place. The weeds had really taken over and each day I have tried to spend some time outside.
Last Saturday I spent the day in a Red Cross training class. It was on first aid and CPR. Since I am on the Emergency Committee, I thought it would be a good idea to take the class. If you become a Red Cross Volunteer, the classes are free, so now I am a Red Cross Volunteer as well. I really learned a lot in the class and am looking forward to taking more training in the future. One of the things we had to do was learn to do mouth-to-mouth on these dummys. Dave thinks that they took this picture because I was reporting that my "patient" didn't survive!
On Wednesday, we had to make a run into Hillsboro. I had rescheduled my mammogram from the week before and Dave needed a haircut. I also managed to pick up a few items at the store before heading back home. One of the things we bought was a super soaker squirt gun to use on the raccoons. One of those high-power, high-pressure things. Our neighbors went to Mexico on vacation and they brought back this really smelly stuff called "Fabulosa". They say the raccoons absolutely hate it. So we decided to try it since the b-b's from the gun just seem to bounce off their fur. Maybe they know what's in store for them, because we haven't seen them in days. But I know they're still around because they trashed some planters and dug holes in the yard in the middle of the night Wednesday night. After messing with my planters, I can't wait to "zap" 'em with the stinky stuff, but it looks like I'm going to have to set my alarm for the middle of the night to get them!
We got an excited call from our 7-year old granddaughter Paige. She has been raising chickens at their place and she was all excited to find four eggs the other day! One of the eggs had a double-yoke. Of the six pullets that they have been raising, two turned out to be roosters so they have to find a home for those two and replace them with four more chickens. I have been saving my egg cartons hoping that I will be able to receive some of those fresh eggs! Paige's older sister Ashtin is raising pigs for her 4-H project and boy are they getting big. Leslie's family lives on 2-acres near Silverton and are becoming quite the "farm" family. Leslie grows her own vegetable garden and if it does as good as it did last year she is going to put up a vegetable stand in front of their place!
This marks the fifth anniversary of this journal. Actually, it was last week, but with everything that was going on, I didn't do a regular update last week. So, we'll call this the official day! I know there are at least a few loyal readers because I get feedback from you every once in a while. Thanks for reading this and I hope you continue to enjoy it.
As I mentioned, it feels great that everything with Jaysa turned out (thank God) and it's nice being home again.
