IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Another week in paradise and I am really enjoying all the sunshine.
You can't come to Arizona without tasting REAL Mexican food, so Saturday night, so Bob and Jeanne took us to a Mexican restaurant. Our table was right next to the window overlooking the duck pond in the center of the restaurant. The restaurant is out in Cave Creek, another half hour north and east of their place. I'd like to spend more time in that little town; it looked like there were a lot of neat shops. Anyway, we had a great meal and Bob said that we had been officially "Mexicanized" Arizona-style.
Dave was down here all last week and had to leave to go home on Sunday. After dropping him off at the airport in the morning, Jeanne and I went over to their church and during the early morning service we babysat in the nursery. We had two little guys about 6 months old to take care of and they sure made me homesick for my granddaughters. After that, we attended the late service and listened to Bob's sermon. We spent the rest of Sunday relaxing and getting ready for the next week.
Boy, have I caught up on my shopping. In fact, we were out on Saturday and Jeanne practically came to a dead stop in the middle of the road and did a U-turn after she discovered a craft show going on! It was really fun and I ended up buying another suitcase (a carry-on) since I only brought one with me from home. We saw so many cute homemade things and the only thing that stopped me from buying anything more is that I would have to try to get it home and I am already running out of room!
On Monday we shopped until we dropped some more. My sister enjoys shopping and loves it when I come to town so we can go to all the malls. I never get the chance to just shop because of the remote area where we live on the coast, so it has been fun. My sister's thing is shoes - and I swear we didn't pass one shoe store without her stopping to try on a few pair.
Tuesday morning we went to the women's fellowship at her church. They meet once a week in the morning and for those who work, they can come in the evening. It is a great opportunity to get together with friends. Since Bob is a pastor, their whole lives evolve around the church. Afterward the meeting, we met with one of her friends and had lunch at this cute place called "5 and Diner" with a fifties theme.
Our weather finally cooled down from high 80's to mid-70's this week. I know, I feel like I am rubbing it in for those of you back home that are coping with rainy weather in the mid-40's. Dave said he about froze to death after he arrived back in Portland. There was a 40-degree change in temperature between Phoenix and Portland - 88 when he left here and 48 when he got home. We did have some high winds for a day down here and boy, did that stir up my sinuses. Everything is in bloom down here - including the cactus! I have been trying to stay indoors when the wind is blowing because of that.
We have been taking my sister's two Basset Hounds for walks each morning, which is so pleasant in the early mornings. Speaking of those two hounds, the other day, while we were upstairs in the study, the dogs decided to do some investigating in the kitchen. I went down to find out what they were up to and they had gotten into the corner cupboard where the cereal was kept and helped themselves to a box of Captain Crunch. Boy, were they in big trouble!
Tomorrow, I will pick up my girlfriend Terrie from the airport. She will be coming down from Hillsboro to visit with us for a few days before we get in our rental car and leave Arizona for Nevada next Wednesday. We'll meet Dave, along with Terrie's husband, Stan in Las Vegas before we head northeast for a condo in Mesquite. I hope that I will be able to post something next week, but without knowing the Internet situation in Mesquite, I'm not sure how that is going to work out. If I don't, I will catch up the following week. I also promise to have more pictures too.
