IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Last weekend we drove to Silverton to help Leslie and Jason build a small barn on their property. This barn will house a pig for Ashtin's 4-H project, a few chickens and eventually a cow. There were plenty of strong men that had come to help, so the job went pretty smoothly and by Sunday afternoon the sides were up, the roof was on and the floor was down. The interior walls and a door still have to be installed, but it should be completed by February when the pig will arrive. We drove the Chevy so that we could haul the Kubota back with us. Jason had borrowed it last summer and it needed to be brought back for the winter. The only mishap all weekend was when Paige stepped on a nail and poked the skin of her foot. She was more upset about having to go to the doctor to have it looked at than she was about the pain! After determining that she had had already had a tetanus shot, we cleaned it up real good and she was running around on it in no time.

The drive home in the dark, hauling the Kubota was no fun. Dave had a terrible time being blinded by oncoming cars and has decided that he should go in and have his eyes examined. The optometrist advised him when he was in last year that he was developing cataracts and will probably need to have them removed. He needs to follow up on this.

On Monday, Dave had to drive back into Portland for a Blazer game and I stayed home. We volunteer at the grade school with their reading program and we figured one of us should stay around to help. We are not doing SMART this year as the school opted not to use that program, but just to have volunteer readers on their own. We are helping out with the 4th grade class and once a week we listen and evaluate their reading skills. It is a lot more interesting as these students already have the basics down. They just need a little more practice reading aloud. Some of them are quite good and are reading at a higher than 4th grade level.

While Dave was in town, he purchased an animal trap so we can catch that raccoon that keeps stealing the bird food. It just doesn't take the hint, even when Dave stands out there with his trusty b-b gun and bounces b-b's off of him. So anyway, he bought this trap and we figured out how it works and when we have a minute, we will set the trap! If we catch anything, we plan on taking it out in the woods and let it loose.

We came back into town on Wednesday for another Blazer game. Dave dropped me off at Lara and Greg's and then headed for the Rose Garden. While he was working the game, I prepared several pies for our Thanksgiving dinner. Unfortunately, the last pumpkin pie didn't make it out of the oven. Greg was watching it and after it was done baking, he reached in the oven to take it out and dropped the whole pie upside down in the oven. What a mess! Fortunately, we had enough pies for our feast.

Speaking of feasts, we had a wonderful turkey dinner at Leslie and Jason's. Jason loves to cook and prepared this great mushroom stuffing to go along with the 22-lb roasted turkey. It was a great day being with all of the family and we have so much to be thankful for.

There was mention that some of the gals were getting up at 4:30 a.m. to go shopping and catch those early morning Christmas sales. NOT ME!! I hate crowds and would rather do most of my shopping on the Internet!

There is another Blazer game tonight, and then we'll head back home on Saturday.
