IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Just the usual busy week. I tell you, I am busier now that I am retired than I ever was when I was working for a living!
Since the weather was pretty nice over the weekend, Lara and her family came down on Saturday. The girls always enjoy coming to the beach and visiting with Grandma and Grandad and it gives the parents a chance to relax too. While Greg and Lara took the older two to the beach, we babysat baby Jordyn. She is nine months old and is into everything. I managed to get her curiosity up by letting her dig through the old Tupperware drawer that I have in the kitchen. She also managed to find the drawer that I keep my kitchen towels in and had fun emptying everything on the floor. Since she has five teeth now, she is discovering new foods too. I introduced her to cottage cheese and it didn't surprise me at all that she liked it, as it is a favorite of her mother and grandad. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!
I did manage to get some yard work done while the weather was nice. I got the garden put to bed for the winter and planted some mums and tulip bulbs. I have been watching the squirrel that comes to the feeder and he was busy all week running back and forth from the feeder to the garden and I am sure he has been planting seeds. I will find out when they sprout, I guess!
I'm still trying to outwit the raccoons. My bird feeders are usually OK during the day, but as the afternoon ends, it becomes a question of whether I get the feeders in the house or Rocky Raccoon sucks them dry. The first one to act usually wins! The raccoons are cute, but they're a darned nuisance and I really don't want to have to fight with them. We're looking at the possibility of getting a live animal trap and moving them far enough out of town where they won't come back!
I also had our monthly garden club meeting this week. We met at one member's home and made Christmas wreaths. Luckily the weather stayed nice but there was a fire going in the fire pit just in case. We had a pretty good turn out and it was a lot of fun making our creations. What is nice about it is that everyone brings fir boughs to share and so we have quite a large selection to make our wreaths with. I brought some holly with berries on it.
Dave had another City Council meeting Tuesday night. It seems like all he's been doing for the past month involves the council. They have been interviewing candidates for city manager and they finally offered the job to one of them. He accepted and so now that time-consuming task is behind him. The City Council is only supposed to meet once a month, and it has been nearly every day in November.
Wednesday, we headed into town as Dave had a Blazer game and I had a dentist appointment to get my new crown put in. So after my appointment, we drove into the Rose Garden and I helped Dave set up for the game that night. Then I stayed for the game, but since I retired last year I don't have a place to sit anymore and most of the games are sold out. I spent the first half of the game in the back listening to the broadcast in the studio and then the second half I sat behind Dave and watched the game on the big screen. It was a fun to watch as the Blazers never trailed during the game and won by 40 points. We spent the night in West Linn and drove back home the following afternoon.
We had Des and Donna Kahrs up for dinner on Thursday night. They are heading to California this weekend to visit with their kids and won't be returning until after the first of the year, so we wanted to be sure we saw them before they leave. We're heading into Leslie and Jason's for the weekend so Dave can help Jason build an animal shed. I guess Ashtin is getting ready to launch her 4-H career! I'm sure I'll have pictures of that project here next week!
