IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We spent a couple of days in Portland last weekend. We took Jeanne back in with us on Thursday as we had given her enough rain to last her for a while. She also wanted to spend a few days with her friend Barb before heading back to Phoenix. Dave had a couple of Blazer games and we had taken the Chevy into get some work done on it and it was ready to be picked up. I dropped him off at the Chevy place on Thursday and Jeanne and I took off to go shopping. We found quite a few bargains and so I got some Christmas shopping started. I never get a chance to just browse and shop very much, so it was a lot of fun.
Friday, since Dave and I had some spare time in between games, we decided to check out a refrigerator/freezer that we are going to need to buy. Ours is starting to make some strange noises and seems to run more often than it should. While we were at the appliance store, we also looked at stovetops and televisions... just to get an idea, mind you. We really can't afford anything right now but it is always fun to just "look".
I headed back home by myself on Saturday after doing a little grocery shopping. I arrived home around mid-afternoon and started doing some laundry. There was bedding to do from the guest room and I ended up washing about three loads of stuff. Dave came home after the game, which was around 1:00 a.m. That made for a long, long day for him.
We have had quite the rain and windstorm this week - my sister Jeanne left too soon! It felt like someone has hosing the house down with water and we had wind gusts up to 35 miles an hour here in town. It was blowing more than 70 over on the beach. It was raining so hard that at times you could hardly hear yourself talk. We ended up with over three inches in 48-hours. There was lots of flooding and several mudslides and it has been interesting to watch what been coming down the river. The storm lasted for a couple of days and the system finally passed through and now it is sunny and calm out once more. I managed to work out in the yard most of the day yesterday, picking up debris and raking leaves. I got about half of it done and still need to work on the side and front of the house. We are supposed to have nice weather over the weekend so maybe I can get everything done that I want to do. I still need to plant some tulips that I bought a month ago.
With all this stormy weather that we have been having, I was surprised to look out the window and see a whole flock of Goldfinches. I thought that they had flown south a long time ago, but whole bunch of them were swarming around the feeders. I'm always amazed at how much they change color in the winter. These are the same little guys that are bright yellow in the summer! I am still having problems with "Rocky the Raccoon" showing up. He was here again yesterday evening and so I am diligently bringing in the feeders every night before he can do chin-ups on them! I have the timing of that down so that I get them in the house just before he shows up!
Tuesday was Veteran's Day and of course the girls had to call to thank their father for being a veteran. Our oldest granddaughter, who is nine, called too and wished Granddad a "Happy Veterinarian's Day".
Dave has been busy nearly every day this week. The City Council has been interviewing candidates for the City Manager's job, and they've had to meet several times to get through this process. I hope they can get this wrapped up soon because our current manager is leaving on December 1st.
It looks like we may have Lara and her family down here this weekend. I hope they can make it because it looks like it might actually be fairly nice both Saturday and Sunday. We won't be able to say that much more this winter!
