IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
The weather stinks! If it doesn't warm up pretty soon, I don't know what I am going to do. It has been raining all week and in the 60's. The only thing growing around here are the weeds and the grass! It is so frustrating because I can't get anything done outside. Dave has managed to replace the ramp on the church, but it has taken him a couple of weeks because of the wet weather. My garden is stuck in slow motion because of the lack of sunshine and to make matters worse, some critter has been pulling up my beans after they had sprouted. Luckily, I was able to replant them and cover them at night to protect them from whatever creature that is that is trying to destroy them. Maybe I will get some beans this year - or maybe not.
We had my Mom's graveside service on Saturday and it was very nice. My sister Jeanne, of course, was already here and her husband Bob came up from Phoenix to perform the service. It must be very difficult for him when he is always called on to perform that task at family funerals. He did a very good job and we were thankful to have him there. We received many, many bouquets of flowers. In fact, I was surprised at the number of people who came to the service. When one reaches the age of 87 years, there aren't too many of your friends left or the ones who are left are physically or mentally unable to make it. My cousin, Marilyn and her husband Barney came up from Eureka, California. It was very nice of them to do that. An old neighbor of ours also came. She knew a lot of people and I guess that's why there were so many there. Of course, there were also the relatives who you only get a chance to see at funerals and weddings.
After the service, Dave and I took some of the flowers over to Mom's assisted living place for everyone to enjoy and for the memorial service that they were going to have the next day. We had dinner with Jeanne and Bob as they were leaving early Sunday morning to get back to Phoenix. Since it would have been pretty late to head for home after that, we decided to stay for the memorial service on Sunday afternoon for Mom. We had some errands to do Sunday morning, but still arrived early to finish emptying her apartment. This was the 6th death within a month at that assisted living place, and I am sure the remaining residents were feeling a little uneasy watching us haul Mom's things away - wondering if they are next. Anyway, as it turned out, the memorial service was held that morning and we missed it! They had given us the wrong time. I was disappointed that I missed the service and the assisted living place was sorry too (more embarrassed than sorry) that they had misinformed us. So we packed the car full of stuff and drove on home. I got to stay there for 24 hours before getting ready to leave again the next morning to babysit in West Linn.
I received a phone call from my granddaughter, Paige. Paige just finished kindergarten and was all excited because she had received an award for her reading skills. She is doing really well in school and I think it is because my daughter Leslie works with her on her reading during the summer. Both of her girls are good readers and are planning on going to the library during the summer to check out books to read. Because I am in the SMART program at our local school, I can see the importance to learning to read and we are so proud of their accomplishments.
This weekend is the Crab Festival in Wheeler and I will be helping out on Saturday by serving crab and working in the raffle booth. Most of the money will be going towards the Park and Recreation Fund in Wheeler. Dave has to attend a board meeting in Seattle, so he will be taking off bright and early, as it is a five-hour trip up there for a 2-hour meeting and a five-hour trip back. Sunday is Father's Day and I don't really have anything planned as I have to turn around and go right back to West Linn for my last three days next week of babysitting.
Hey! I have heard this rumor that the weather is suppose to be pretty good this weekend. Let's hope that the weather gods bless us with some sunshine!
