IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I had to run into town last Friday for a haircut and spent the night with Lara's family. I hadn't seen the grandgirls for a week or so, and they were just as excited to see me. Of course, the first question they always ask me when I come alone is "Where's Granddad?" It is hard for them to see me without him, I guess. I immediately told them that he had to stay at home this time, but promised that he would be with me the next time I came into town.

On my way home on Saturday, I encountered a strange situation. I had just turned off of Highway 26 onto Hwy. 53 and had was heading the last 20 miles to home when I encountered this man in the middle of the road who was waving frantically for me to stop. Against my better judgment, I stopped and rolled down my window to ask him what the problem was. Sometimes, there are accidents on the road and I thought maybe he was going to warn me. He just wanted a "ride down the street" and I looked at his grubby clothes and filthy body and decided, "I don't think so" and rolled the window up as fast as I could and hit the gas. He was probably an okay guy, but I wasn't going to take any chances. He could have been some serial killer as far as I know.

Shoveling Gravel The rest of this week has been quite ordinary after that encounter. We had a few very strong storms roll in from the ocean that really gave us a soaking. It has rained enough to get the burning ban lifted and Dave spent one afternoon between showers burning all the papers we have been collecting for the past couple of months. On Wednesday the rain and hail came down so hard on the roof, I could hardly hear myself. Our house has an open beam ceiling and a metal roof, so there's not much to keep the noise out when it rains hard. It's very loud and very impressive, but having the fire going in the stove makes it nice and cozy. I sure hope this isn't the start of another one of those really wet winters!

I have no idea how to run this thing We had a couple of loads of gravel for the driveways delivered too. There was only supposed to be one load, but the guy misjudged and dumped most of it up on the upper driveway. It was supposed to be divided equally between the upper and the lower driveways. So we had to get another small load of gravel delivered for the lower driveway and meanwhile upper driveway has plenty to spare. Anyway we spent most of the week spreading gravel between rainstorms. Dave got the Kubota out and that helped a lot getting the gravel hauled around and smoothed out evenly. Still, it was a big job and we both were very sore for a few days after that.

Dave Of course, Dave always wants to have pictures taken for the journal and I am the worst picture taker in the world. I can't seem to keep the camera still when I snap the picture and it always comes out blurry. So needless to say, he takes most of the pictures that are in this journal. He was insisting that I practice more and try to take some pictures of our gravel experience but we just couldn't understand why I couldn't see anything in the viewfinder. That is when he discovered that the lens cap was still on the camera! It was quite amusing to say the least and it's why he looks like he's going to fall off the tractor laughing in his picture!

Dave has to make a run to Seattle for the board meeting of the steam society and I decided I would stay home this weekend. If the weather is nice (yeah, right), I hope to get some final yard work done. It seems that the season change came on so quickly that I wasn't as prepared as I should have been.
