IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It just occurred to me while I was looking at the calendar that today is Friday the Thirteenth! Since I have retired, I hardly keep track of the date and it is sometimes hard for me to remember what day it is! It sure is hard getting old.

Tenmile Dock Tenmile Dinner We had a great time at Tenmile Lakes last weekend. There were five steamboats that showed up and when the wind wasn't blowing like crazy, we had a fun time steaming on the lake. The boat worked just great. In fact, Sunday we were out for about three hours. The only thing that went overboard was one of the blue terrycloth towels I used for people to step on getting in the boat instead of the cushions. At the end of our three-hour trip, we were heading into the wind on our way back to the dock and it just blew out of the boat. I watched it sink before we could get turned around to retrieve it. We ended up having two potlucks while we were there, one on Saturday night and another on Sunday night with all of the leftovers from the night before. If anyone went hungry, it was their own fault. We took the boat out of the lake on Monday morning after about six tries trying to line the boat up straight on the trailer. We have to get some guides for the trailer so we don't have to spend so much time getting the boat lined up properly. The drive back home was very windy but we made it back safely. Some friends that were at the meet spent the night as they live in the Seattle area and that would have made for a long trip home for them. The next morning they treated us to breakfast and they were on their way.

Tuesday was a record breaker for the coast with temperatures hitting 100 degrees and the east wind blowing all day. We tried to get some work done outside, but it was so hot out that we spent the day vegetating and trying to stay cool. The wind finally changed directions around dinnertime and it did cool off a little but it sure was hard to get any sleep that night. We could have slept in one of the beds in the basement (which would have been cooler) but we didn't and suffered all night. I know I've been asking for warmer weather after the soggy spring we had, but that was ridiculous! It got better later in the week, but it's still windy.

We had to go into town on Wednesday and Dave had an appointment to get his hearing aids. They are digital and he has had them for a few days now and they are driving him crazy! He just didn't realize how noisy the world has become and it is really hard for him to get used to that. But I haven't had to repeat myself once and that has been worth it!

We managed to put the steamboat in the water yesterday and will leave it in now until the August steam meet. After we gave some friends and their grandkids rides, we headed down to the Kahrs' dock where we keep it during the summer. We always have a celebration when we arrive at the dock for the first time in the season, and Des and Donna bring out the wine and cheese. Later in the afternoon we decided to go see the new Harry Potter movie that was out. Donna is a huge Harry Potter fan and whenever a new book or movie comes out, she's first in line! So, off we went. I am not much of a fan and haven't kept up with the books or the movies, but it was a great flick and we enjoyed it.

I also found out earlier this week that a thief came into the Waterfront Park and stole seven of our plantings that were in the park. The Park Committee was really discouraged about this because we had worked long and hard to landscape it. Many appreciated our recent effort and visitors had commented on the great plant selection. I guess whoever took the plants liked them too and decided to dig them up and take them home to their own garden! What a shame to have so many volunteers commit time and resources only to have one person spoil the setting. Because the funding was limited, we solicited help from the community and several park members made personal contributions in excess of $100 each to get the park just to our liking. We made a police report and luckily one of the members had taken a picture of the various plants that were missing. I don't know if the thief will ever be caught, but it saddens me just the same.
