IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Lots of happenings this week and it finally feels like spring.
We stayed in town over the weekend after our trip to Ashland. We had a couple of Blazer games to engineer and Dave had a lacrosse game. So it was three games in three nights and then on Sunday, all the family gathered at Lara and Greg's to celebrate Easter dinner (early) and two of my granddaughters' birthdays. Since Jadyn was turning four on April 3rd and her cousin, Paige was turning five this coming week on April 9th; we decided to combine everything at one event.
What a party! Between opening birthday presents, birthday cake, hiding Easter eggs, and doing the Hokey Pokey, it was quite a celebration. We had gotten the girls each a pair of roller skates and an outfit to wear which went over really big. Plus for an Easter gift, I had filled some plastic eggs with candy and small toys. That's right, lots of M&M's and jellybeans to get them hyper! We got them bouncing off the walls and then Dave and I headed for the coast. It had been almost a week since we left home and we were anxious to get caught up on our mail and to sleep in our own bed. I also hate living out of a suitcase all the time.
It's good to get back to our old routine again. My water aerobics class had started a new term and it felt great to get back into the swim of things, so to speak. We had SMART in the afternoon as the kids are back from their Spring Break too. My garden club is preparing for their annual garden sale next month, so there is plenty to do there. I helped on Tuesday by transplanting fuchsias, geraniums and various perennials for the sale. This will be an ongoing task every week now until the 12th of May when we have our sale.
We had to break the routine for one day as we had a Blazer broadcast Wednesday night. We had to go into town early so Dave could see the doctor about his shoulder. X-rays were inconclusive and he now is scheduled for an MRI next week. After that, we headed for the Rose Garden, worked the game and drove home after that. It was after 1 AM before we got to bed! I was up early enough to go exercise in the morning, but both of us were feeling like slugs on Thursday.
Since the weather has been fairly nice all week (although it did dip below freezing a couple of nights) I managed to get out and mow the lawn. That is what I get for fertilizing the darn thing. It is looking a lot better, though. We also had a Park Committee work party at the waterfront park on Thursday. We are in the process of making it more attractive by putting in a new concrete block lined path and will be planting shrubs as soon as we get the area landscaped. It is hard work because we have to do all the manual labor ourselves plus we are on a deadline to have this done by the end of summer due to the grant that was given to us. I managed to avoid most of the hard labor, but I did end up - guess what? - pushing a lawnmower again! I made more sense for me to do that and to let the guys handle the heavy stuff!
I was so excited; I got my first goldfinch this week! I had just put out a new feeder with sunflower hearts and thistle seeds and they just love that. I also have a couple of hummingbirds fighting over the feeder that I had placed for them. Dave swears I feed every bird in the area!
I hope everyone has an especially nice Easter. Since we already celebrated last week with everyone, we will just be content to stay close to home. Besides I heard that the weather is going to be fantastic this weekend. The temperatures have been up close to 70 and we'll take that any time in April!
