IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Can you believe that it is June already? Where has the time gone?
June always makes me think of the Portland Rose Festival activities. They should rename it the "Rain Festival" as it is ALWAYS raining here in June and I can't remember when the last time that it was held that it didn't rain. Between the parades, fun center and the car races, you are bound to get wet sometime. Portland is known as the City of Roses, but I think it should be called the City of Hoses!! Why they don't hold this festival later in the summer, say August or September when we can usually count on nicer weather around here, is beyond me.
Speaking of rain, we had a miserable Memorial Day weekend with all its wetness. But people seemed to manage to come to the coast anyway as there seemed to be a bit more traffic on Highway 101. On Saturday, I managed to talk Dave into going to the Manzanita Library book sale where I picked up some used paperbacks for a dollar each. I have learned that it pays to have a few unread books around on those rainy days when I can't get anything done outside.
Wouldn't you know it, on Tuesday the weather turned gorgeous and I had to run into town for a blood test and doctor's appointment plus lots of errands. I started in Hillsboro to have my blood drawn to check my liver, which is required every 6 months when you take Lipitor. I had to fast the night before, so I tried to get in there as soon as I could. I am not a very nice person if I don't get my breakfast and coffee in the morning! I arrived at the blood place and there was a line clear out in the hall - which is very unusual. It usually takes about 10 minutes at the max to have this done. I had my morning all timed out so that I could run to Clackamas to see my Mom before she went to lunch, stop and do some errands on the way and be back into Hillsboro to my doctor's appointment by 1:45. Well, it appeared that the line was long because the two receptionists were dealing with a couple of incompetent patients. One didn't have any paperwork to support her blood test and the other one didn't even know who his doctor was. After waiting in line for about 20 minutes I was getting rather stressed out over these two people. So what was supposed to be a 10-minute ordeal, turned out to take 30 minutes. Of course, that threw the rest of the things I had to do off schedule. I immediately drove over to Clackamas (which is about an hour from where I was) to see my Mom and to wish her a happy birthday. I left her place and drove back to Hillsboro (30 miles back), stopping along the way to finally get something to eat and cross a couple of errands off my list. After my doctor's appointment, I ran into Fred Meyer's to buy groceries and headed back home around 5:00. I always want to get out of town before the rush hour traffic starts.
We had another nice day on Wednesday with a threatening chance of rain and so I worked out in the yard for a couple of hours. I managed to just finish mowing the lawn when the raindrops began to fall. I was glad that I got it finished as it had been some time since it had been mowed and if I had waited any longer who knows how tall it would be.
Dave went up to Everett on Tuesday to finally bring back the Captain Bell. He got home Wednesday afternoon just as I had finished up outside. The boat looks great and I am so glad we have it back home again, safe and sound. Now the real work begins with repairing the canopy, cleaning the decks and polishing the brass! Hopefully, it will be launched sometime soon.
