IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Let me say, "Happy New Year" to everyone. I just don't know where the year went. We spent the 31st quietly in West Linn as we had a Blazer game on New Year's Day. We went out for Chinese food at our favorite restaurant over there, and then Dave was in bed by 10:00 p.m. (he had a very bad cold) and after I finished the book that I have been reading "The DaVinci Code", I was in bed by 11:00. So we weren't what you call a bunch of party animals!

Ray’s Picture After the game on Sunday night, we headed back to the coast. Rain, rain, go away! I am ready to go away myself to someplace that is sunny and dry! It has been raining so hard around here that a lot of areas have flooding. The town of Nehalem had quite a bit of water and the traffic on Hwy 101 had to be diverted up a block because of the rising water from the Nehalem River. The storms have been so fierce that we can actually hear the ocean roaring from our place and we live about 2 miles from the beach! A friend of ours took this picture of the ocean waves crashing over the jetty at the mouth of Tillamook Bay down at Bar View.

I started back on my water aerobics classes the first of the week. It has been one year ago that I began doing them and I can sure feel the difference. I feel stronger and more physically fit. There were only about 6 of us the first day and the water temperature was very cool. We had to keep moving to keep warm, it was so cold. The next day the water was just the opposite, it was too warm and I was sweating in the water! Never satisfied!! But finally, by the end of the week they had it just right! More people have showed up so now our class is up to about 12 people. The pool has been closed during the holidays for about two weeks and that is why the temperature of the water was off. It sure feels great to be back into the routine again.

Wednesday, the rain did stop and the sun actually came out! I wanted to make up for some lost time so I spent about 2 hours working out in the yard. I cleaned up the branches from the last couple of storms and raked more leaves. I also washed my front windows on the outside. It sure makes a difference. But come Thursday we had another storm arrive so I don't know if it helped or not. It sure felt good to get outside though.

Dave and I are all set to help with the SMART program on the grade school. It's a program where adult volunteers work with 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders who need a little help with their reading. Since we read with the grandkids so much, we felt like that was something we could handle! We went up to the school on Wednesday and got ourselves acquainted with the director of the program and she went over the details with us. So starting next Monday, we will be helping out with that. It is only for an hour a week, so that shouldn't be too hard.

Thursday was kind of a "get-stuff-done-because-it's-raining" day. I ran a couple of week's worth of recycling over to CART'M, and Dave had meetings of the Business Association and the Planning Commission. Good thing, because it was raining so hard there was nothing else to do.

This morning, we got an early start to drive up to Everett, Washington to check out the progress on steamboat. Dave has a Northwest Steam Society board meeting on Saturday so we will spend tonight with our dear friend, Sherrie on Bainbridge Island. After the meeting on Saturday, we will then drive back to Portland as we have a Blazer game on Sunday.
