IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
We ended up back in Portland over the weekend, as we had to engineer a game on Saturday night. The way the Blazers played the game, I can tell that it is going to be a long season. Oh well, we get paid whether they win or lose, but it is kind of fun to win once in awhile.
Speaking of winning, my granddaughter, Ashtin called us on Saturday afternoon to tell us that she had scored a goal in her soccer game and that she had a couple of breakaways that almost ended in another score. It's been fun to watch her develop from the start of the season; she's a pretty good little player now and is really enjoying playing soccer. Soccer season ends next week and then she starts playing basketball. At least it will be warmer while we go watch those games!
Sunday we headed back home so that we could attend the local theatre. It was a "reader's theater" play called "Seven Nuns go to Las Vegas" and the seven nuns were all played by men. It had been sold out for all performances, and Sunday afternoon was the final show. We were afraid that we couldn't get in, but since we are friends with the director of the play, she let us in even though they were sold out. It was a fun play.
After a week of recuperating from my fall on my knee, I decided that when I could make it down the stairs without any pain that it was time to go back to my aerobic classes. So Monday, I headed on over to the pool. I played it safe and worked out in the deeper end of the pool where there would be less jarring on my knee. By the end of this week, I was back in the shallow end and feeling pretty good. So I guess I can cancel that doctor's appointment!
I have been very stressed out lately and loosing a lot of sleep over my Mom's situation. My older sister and I have been trying to find an assisted living place for her. She has been living in an independent care facility for the past few years, but her health has been deteriorating to the point where she needs a little more help with her personal care and the administration of her medication. We have had to hire some caregivers to help us out, but that hasn't been a very satisfactory solution; sometimes they show up and sometimes they don't. Anyway, we looked at a couple of places on Saturday and narrowed it down to a place in Oregon City. It is nice and cheery and has about the same size room as what she has now. I was really impressed with the extra wide doors and safety features of each room. Of course, the rent will be twice as much because of the special care, but it is something that we have to do for my Mom. My responsibility to my Mom is to make sure that all her financial needs are met and my sister's responsibility is the medical and personal care. Anyway, trying to make Mom's limited finances stretch as far as possible has been a real challenge. My week has been divided between dealing with care facilities, insurance companies and government agencies. I'll be glad when this is a done deal. Mom, of course, is comfortable where she is now and is reluctant to move. I think (I hope) she'll feel better about all of this once she sees the place and is able to visit with the people over there. Hopefully, she will be settled in her new place by the middle of November.
I had mentioned previously that we are having a double-car garage built for Dave's sister, Leanna. The job was supposed to have started in September and they finally showed up around the middle of October. The crew would show up and work for a couple of hours and then we wouldn't see them for a few days. It just about drives us crazy trying to figure out when this garage will be completed. At the beginning of the week they got a roof on the thing and are ready to pour cement. We'll be gone all next week, and if they figure out that no one is here to crack the whip, who knows when they'll be back.
We were pleasantly surprised to have a former Wheelerite drop by to visit with us on Thursday. It was Bobbie Recio who was in town for a couple of weeks and came by to say "hi". She now lives in Willits, California and when we were down that way in September, we called and left her a message to let her know we were in her neck of the woods. It's great to have friends near and far.
Don't forget to set your clocks back this weekend. That's another thing that I hate. I am on such a schedule that it takes me about a week to adjust to the new times. You wouldn't believe how many clocks we have around here to set back. I just wish that they would just leave it one way or another.
