IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Actually, it's not Friday. I am posting this a day early because we will be in Port Angeles, Washington for the Northwest Steam Society meet on Friday. Unfortunately, without the Captain Bell this year. Dave finally got around to checking out the boat after last week's accident, and it's going to take quite a bit of time (and money) to get it fixed. So, we're going to the meet with no boat for the first time in...well, it seems like forever. After the meet, we are connecting with my sister and brother-in-law from Arizona. They are vacationing in Canada, and will meet up with us in Port Angeles after crossing on the ferry from Victoria, BC. They'll come back with us and stay a couple of days at our place.
I had a rather insignificant week compared to the week before. I went into Portland on Friday. I had to get my blood checked for any liver problems that may have developed since the doctor put me on Lipator. I'm sure I'm fine, but they have to do the test anyway. Since I knew I was going to be in town for the blood test, I also scheduled a bunch of beauty appointments for the same day. I got my hair cut and also got a manicure and pedicure. One of the few luxuries I allow myself is a pedicure, mainly because I'm so blind that can't see, nor can I bend that far to take care of my own feet anymore!
I got my "Grandma fix" while I was in town. I spent the night with Lara and Greg and lavished my attention on my two youngest grandchildren. Jadyn is almost 2-1/2 and is growing like a weed. Mommie is trying to pottie train her and it isn't quite working out as planned. The first day, we went through 3-5 pairs of underwear, but we did manage to make it to the pottie a few times too. So I guess there's a small degree of success there! However, we may be talking about this experiment for a few weeks yet. Little Jaysa, who is 3 months old already, is such a good baby, always smiling and expressing herself. You hardly know she is around.
While I was in town, I bought a bunch of school clothes for my oldest granddaughter Ashtin, who will be turning 6 at the end of this month. She is going to be in the first grade and will be the best-dressed princess in her class after I got through buying out the store! They had such cute things that I just couldn't help myself. She is one lucky girl to have such an easy grandma who loves her so much!
I just stayed one night in Portland and came back to the coast on Saturday. I had volunteered for an early Sunday shift to help serve at the Salmon Festival that the Wheeler Business Association puts on every year. It's a 4-hour shift and let me tell you, after serving up food and standing on your feet for that length of time, I'm glad I don't have to do that for a living! Dave and I did get a nice salmon dinner for all our efforts though.
I must tell you a story on Dave. We have these feral cats in the neighborhood that come around and scare all my birds away. So Dave's solution to the problem was to go out and buy a thing that looks like a 45-Magnum b-b gun. Let me tell you, Dirty Harry has nothing on Dave! All I have to do us yell "Cat Alert" and Dave grabs the ol' Magnum and you can just see the look in his eyes! "Do you feel lucky, cat? Go ahead and make my day!!" He aims high and doesn't try to hit them with the gun, but the noise alone must scare one of their nine lives out them and they are gone! Now, all he has to do is open the door and they seem to know. Come to think about it, I haven't seen any cats around for weeks! That's driving Dave crazy. I see him looking out at the birds, but I know he must be watching the bushes...looking for a reason to grab the gun!
Well, that's all folks! You have a nice weekend, as we will be in Port Angeles visiting with our friends at the steam meet. We should be back by mid-week next week.
