IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Tomato

Can you believe that the month is half over already! It is sort of depressing because it doesn't even feel like summer since we haven't seen much of the sun. It has rained so much in fact we had almost an inch of rain within a 24-hour period! When this happens, there is not much to do except grab a good book and watch the rain come down. All that rain has helped my garden, but unfortunately it has helped the weeds too. As usual, I've been out by the road hacking my way through the jungle. I'm getting a lot of the weeds and the overgrowth trimmed out, but it looks like I may never see the end of the project! This week has been nice. Yesterday was 74 and sunny and today is supposed to be the same. I am happy to report that I picked my first tomato (I cheated and grew them in the greenhouse this year). The rest of my garden has been coming along nicely, we are eating fresh lettuce and yesterday, I spotted some tiny, tiny cucumbers on the vines.

Last weekend, we went into town to do some errands, visit with my mother and get my grandma fix. It was mainly to attend Jaysa's christening. I was keeping her entertained or should I say she was keeping me entertained while everyone was getting ready for church. She is cooing and smiling now and it is so cute to get a reaction from her. She slept during the christening and even the little dab of water on the forehead didn't seem to bother her. She is such a good baby.

Jadyn and Jaysa attended a birthday party last week and they came home with a tutu and crown. Of course they had to model them for us. Jadyn was twirling around like a ballerina and was having so much fun pretending.

We had to scoot back home Sunday as we were expecting some steamboating friends to drop by. They were heading south to a steamboat meet and stayed with us overnight and then took us to breakfast the next morning. We enjoyed our little visit but it is always nice when people arrive with their motorhome and their own accommodations! I had a great time playing with their Cocker Spaniel, and it almost made me want another dog. At least until the next morning when I stepped in a BIG pile of doggy doo doo! What was I thinking??

The rest of this week I have been getting ready for my BIG garage sale. When the kids were down over the 4th of July, I had them go through most of the stuff from their grandmother. I decided to have a garage sale this Saturday before I send all the rest of it to charity. I also added a bunch of my things. I finally went through some of the boxes that I hadn't opened from our move last year and it was like opening Christmas presents. I was wondering where all that stuff was. It was so hard for me to part with some of it, but I kept telling myself, "Let go, Jan" as I know that I will never use it again. Dave's sister, Leanna came over and helped me price everything (really cheap) so we can get rid of it. I don't expect to make a fortune off any of it anyway and what money we do make, will go into the estate. I really hate doing a garage sale, it is a lot of work and I don't like to barter on prices. I will let you know how that goes.

We did have a little excitement yesterday. Ever since the riding lawnmower broke down, we have been borrowing a mower from a friend. Now that the rider is fixed, Dave decided to take it over to the friend's house and do her lawn with it - sort of a "thank-you" for letting us use her mower. Her grass was tall and wet, so they had to stop and unclog the mower every once in a while. One time, Linda just stuck her hand in the chute with the motor running and the blade clipped her left hand. She was sure she lost her fingers! Dave got the mower stopped and checked her out. She still had five fingers, but took a nasty hit from the blade. She was going into shock and they got her into the house with ice on her hand and her feet elevated. By the time they got her into the car and to the emergency room, she was feeling better. So they left the medical center without checking in and Dave brought her by here and I helped clean her up. She's going to be OK, and has decided she'll keep her hand out of the lawnmower in the future!

I will be working at the Tourist Information Desk at the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon until 4:00 and then I will be on my own, as Dave has to announce the drag races in Portland tonight and Saturday night. He will be back on Sunday morning.

Have a great week!
