IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
I spent last weekend alone at the house while Dave went back into town to announce the drag races. It was so nice to just stay at home and get something done around here.
Sunday, after Dave got back from town, our daughter Leslie and two of my granddaughters, Ashtin and Paige came to visit. I played Uncle Wiggly with the five year old; she manages to beat grandma at every single game! Between rain showers, we took the girls up to the local park where they enjoyed the swings and slide. After we got back to the house, they found granddad's old golf clubs and had to try them out. They took a few divots out of my lawn, but they got so they could hit the ball! Later in the afternoon, I fed them spaghetti and they headed back home to Salem. It was really nice that they were able to come down for the day.
Monday it rained hard all day. We measured almost two inches of rainfall within a 12-hour period. Because of the weather, I was confined to the house all day so I worked on my watercoloring and watched TV. I was still stiff and sore from the weekend's work anyway.
Tuesday night, we had our good friends Des and Donna Kahrs up to the house for dinner. Des' birthday was a couple of weeks ago, but we've all been so busy this was the first time we have had a chance to get together to celebrate. I did some more experimental cooking, making chicken enchiladas from scratch! There was nothing left on the table after dinner, so I guess they came out okay!
Tuesday and Wednesday, the sun finally appeared and we got the motorhome out of the barn and prepared it for a new roof repair. I scrubbed a few years accumulation of dirt and grime away and then on Wednesday, Dave applied the roof sealer. It really needed it as it was starting to leak badly and in Oregon, that's not a good thing. I gave his ugly truck a much needed washing too. It hadn't been washed in two or three years and when there is moss growing on the weather-stripping around the windows, I think it is time to do something about it. It looked pretty good after a scrub job and I told him that I might even be seen riding in it!
On Thursday, Dave and I took the South Tillamook County tour with the Chamber of Commerce. We started in Tillamook and our first stop was Munson Creek Falls, which is the tallest falls on the Oregon coast. We continued south through some of the smaller communities, Beaver, Hebo and Cloverdale and stopped at a gallery and B&B along the way. Then we took a tour of downtown Pacific City where we had pizza for lunch. While in Pacific City we got a tour of a local brewery near Haystack Rock. Then it was back up north, stopping at the three capes along the way, Cape Kiwanda, Cape Lookout and Cape Meares. We didn't get back to Tillamook until 5:00 p.m. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day and the ocean scenery was spectacular. These tours sponsored by the various chambers have been very educational, and if you ever hit our tourist information booth while I'm there, I can now tell you all about Tillamook County!
After we got back home, I helped Dave load up the motorhome as he is planning to drive it into town today. He's announcing the Rose Cup Races sports car races and will just stay in the motorhome at the racetrack all weekend. I'm staying home as I have a friend coming down and we are going to go to the Sand Castle festival in Cannon Beach this weekend.
