IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
Last week, it seemed like we were gone for so long and it was only a week. I was glad to get home.
Before I came home on Friday, I took a couple of pictures of my new granddaughter, Jaysa. It is hard to believe that she is three weeks old already. Jadyn is beginning a reluctant acceptance of her little sister after realizing that she has to share mommy. Not that she's willing to share all the time! It's going to take a while for her to get used to the idea.
After I got home I spent most of the day working out in the yard. Just in a week while I was gone, the place turned into a jungle. I couldn't believe how fast the weeds have taken over.
On Saturday, Dave came home with a new toy. After I sent him to town to get the mail he stopped off at a second-hand store and came home with a shiny red electric scooter. His excuse was that he needed it to get around at the races when he's announcing. Yeah, right! I told him that was fine just as long as he gets his exercise walking instead of riding the scooter around everywhere. It's old and it's slow and it won't go uphill, but he's had a grin on his face ever since he got it, so I guess it's ok.
That afternoon, our dear friends Ed and Diane Avila from Dexter, Oregon came for the weekend. We've known them ever since we were first married and living in California. We had a nice visit with them. On Sunday, Ed and Dave went out kayaking on Nehalem Bay while Diane and I went shopping. We hit a garage sale and then a cute gift shop in Manzanita. On our way back home, we met the guys at the antique mall in Wheeler and then they took us out to lunch.
Diane is still working, so they only had the three-day weekend. But because they did have the extra day, they were able to stay until Monday. They enjoyed the herd of elk grazing on the island in front of our house. We told them that we had planned it that way, and brought the herd in just for them!
Monday evening, while we were eating dinner, I noticed a small boat drifting out in the bay. After getting out the binoculars, we discovered that there wasn't anyone in it! Because of the possibility that someone had fallen overboard, we called 911. It had already been reported and the police were trying to find the owner. Meanwhile, it was drifting closer to our place and it finally got hung up on some pilings right down in front of us. As it turned out, the owners had tied it to the dock at a local marina and had gone in for dinner. It was pretty breezy that evening and they must not have fastened it very well. When they came out, the boat was missing! It was fun watching them retrieve it, but they didn't even say "thanks" when they left. I guess they were too embarrassed. That's about all the excitement that really happened around here and I am sure that it will make the "news" in the local paper.
The rest of the week it has been raining off and on, but the weather broke long enough for me to do some more weeding. I am a little stiff and sore and the Flexall felt good on the old knees. I also had a new visitor to my feeder this week. A little chipmunk feasted on a few sunflower seeds and corn kernels. He had to compete with the Blue Jays and it was comical to watch them take turns chasing each other away.
I also got this excited phone call from my oldest granddaughter Ashtin the other night. She has been working on this loose tooth for a couple of weeks, and the tooth finally fell out. She just had to call and tell me about it! She is five and now she officially belongs to the Lost Tooth Club! I got her that book, "The Lost Tooth Club" a couple of months ago when the tooth first became loose, and we've been reading it together ever since. But, I think she was more excited about the tooth fairy coming to bring her money than losing her tooth. Her father, Jason made sure the tooth fairy left her two dollars. The next morning, Ashtin was thinking out loud and was wondering what a tooth fairy would wear. She said probably a white dress with a wand and a princess crown. Her mother's response to that was, "You're probably right. Jason, don't you think that's what the tooth fairy would wear?" You will have to envision this big burly police officer as a tooth fairy!! While the camera was out, Paige had to show that she still has ALL of her teeth!
Thursday after my water aerobics class, I caught up with Dave on the tour of North Tillamook County, which was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. As I mentioned last month, since we're going to be volunteering at the visitor information center, the Chambers of Tillamook County are bringing volunteers in to make sure they know what's going on in each town. This time it was our area. Dave started at the sport and commercial fishing port of Garibaldi, and I met the tour in Rockaway Beach. We had a nice lunch courtesy of the Chamber and then we toured Wheeler, Nehalem and Manzanita. We also saw Nehalem Bay State Park and saw the inside of one of the many "yurts" or permanent tents which they have available in the park. This park is so popular that if you want to stay there during the summer months, you have to make a reservation nine months in advance. It was a long day and we were pretty tired when we got home. Next Thursday, we finish our tours with a day in south county.
Friday, Dave took off for the big city to announce at the races and finish up on an electrical job, while I am opting to stay home this weekend. I am tried of going back and forth and just want to stay at home for a while and get some work done around here.
