IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!
This has been a rather "usual" week and nothing real exciting happened.
Last Friday, Dave stayed in Portland to work the drag races and a Blazer game. I didn't have to work any of those, so I headed home! I came home by way of Salem so I could drop off a few late birthday presents to Paige. Leslie was home sick with the flu and had the "hokey-pukies" the night before. By the time I arrived, she was pretty well over whatever she had and felt human again. We had ordered a "Tinker Bell" swimming suit from the Disney store for Paige's birthday but it didn't arrive in time for the party. I had also got a "Kim Possible" swimming suit for Ashtin. They were so delighted and immediately put them on even though it was 40 degrees outside! I also delivered another gift from Leslie's cousin Luke and his friend Anna, so it was like birthday time all over again. One thing about waiting to give a late present is you can really enjoy the expression on their faces because all the other birthday presents have been opened. After all the fun of opening gifts, I headed home by way of Hebo, which is more south of us on the coast. It would have taken me about two hours to get home if I hadn't stopped at Fred Meyer's in Tillamook to pick up a few things.
Most of the weekend, I just watched it rain off and on. I saw my first siting of the herd of elk on the island in front our place, so that was exciting. On my way to the post office on Saturday, I stopped at the local fabric store and found some material to make valances for the utility room windows. Wouldn't you know, they only had one-yard of what I liked in the whole store, but luckily it is plenty wide so I managed to have enough. Again, I promise pictures when this project is finished, maybe next week!
Dave's game was early on Sunday, so he drove home after the broadcast and got back around 10 PM. He misses the place as much as I do and is always glad to get back here.
The sun did finally come out the beginning of the week and I spent some time out in the yard pulling weeds. I planted my tomatoes (in the greenhouse) and also planted some cucumber seeds. I bought some herbs (lavendar, mint and thyme) to plant. Now that the sun has dried things out a bit, I am really getting anxious to start planting vegetables and flowers. It has been so wet we couldn't get the lawn mowed, so Dave took advantage of the nice weather and borrowed a mower and got the grass cut. He needs to get his riding mower fixed, and after having to do the whole place with a regular mower, I bet he gets it in to the repair shop pretty quick!
We had to go back into town on Wednesday for our FINAL Blazer game of the season. It was a great game (we won) and afterwards we met up with a few co-workers at the local pub to celebrate. This was a most disappointing year for the team and the worst record for games won in a long time. We have mixed feelings about the season being over. We really want to be able to spend more time at home, but that extra income stops when the season is over and we are going to miss that!
Thursday we got up and headed up to Hood River to literally sign our lives away! We had new wills and other legal documents prepared by Dave's cousin's husband who is a lawyer. We have to keep it in the family, you know.
We had our cholesterol checked last week. Dave had his checked last fall and it was pretty high, so the doctor put him on Lipitor. He needed a follow-up check and I hadn't had mine checked for quite a while, so in we went. We got the results this week - Dave's was great and mine was terrible! My result was more like a real good bowling score and so the doctor has put me on Lipitor too. I just don't understand, I eat right, exercise and don't smoke and yet my cholesterol is high. It must be in the genes. I tell you, it is all maintenance from now on.
We are expecting some good friends for the weekend, so today I will start preparing for them. I just love having company!
Hey, this turned out longer than I thought for a "usual" week at my house. No pictures, we didn't do anything exciting enough to take a picture of, but I promise some next week!
