IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We had a short night last Friday night. As I mentioned last week, we had a game that night, and it was pretty exciting as the Blazers won! But there were some technical problems following the broadcast and they couldn't do a post-game talk show from a local restaurant as they had planned. So Dave had to stay and run the show using his equipment at courtside. By the time we got that program off the air and packed up all our stuff, it was midnight before we got back to Lara & Greg's.

We headed home on Saturday morning as Leslie and Jason were staying at our place while attending a nearby basketball tournament to watch their nephew play. Besides, we were anxious to just be home again after a hectic week of basketball broadcasts. We are always anxious to see the grandgirls too. They love to help Granddad put the flag up in the morning and take it down at the end of the day.

On Saturday evening, Dave and I attended a farewell party for the local postmaster. She was retiring after 25 years and I think we are going to miss her more than she is going to miss us. The Business Association put on the party and everyone was given "Hello" tags with their P.O. Box number on them! After all, the postmaster would know us better by our box number than our names, right? We didn't stay too long at the party because Leslie and Jason were at the house, and I had lasagna in the oven and the grandkids to feed. After dinner, we just relaxed a bit and then everyone was in bed by 10:00. We got good marks for the new wall bed that we had put in the office/guestroom. They said it was the best night's sleep that they had in a long time. I guess we'll have to move down there and try it out one of these nights.

Sunday we got up and I fixed pancakes and eggs for everyone. We had to take some pictures of the grand girls again before they left for home. Then Dave and I got caught up on the house cleaning, mail and e-mails.

Monday was sort of a bummer. It was the anniversary of my mother-in-law's accident and I couldn't help but think about her. I really have missed her through this year, as she was such a part of our lives. Her passing has truly left a void in our lives.

I also went back to my water aerobics class on Monday. Since I haven't been over there for a while because of being in Florida for a couple of weeks and then having to stay in town to work the games, it was like starting all over again. I do feel better though. After aerobics, I helped the garden club clean up around the building where we hold our meetings every month. If we clean up the place, they will let us use the facility to hold our plant sale this spring. The local reporter came by and took our pictures so we will be in the next issue of the local paper!

Sunset

The Groundhog saw his shadow on Tuesday and they say that means six more weeks of winter. I don't think so. We have been having such beautiful weather here (in the 50's and 60's), compared to the folks on the East Coast who still have snow on the ground. It sucks to be them!! I have daffodils about ready to bloom! It was so nice outside the other day that I spent an afternoon doing yard work, raking up the rest of the leaves left over from the fall, spraying for weeds and pruning back shrubs. The sunsets have been so spectacular that I had to take a picture just for you to see for yourself.

After an all-too-short stay at home (we had 9 days at home in January), it was once again time to head back to the big city. We left Wednesday after my water aerobics because Dave had a game Wednesday night (one of those rare times that I didn't). I babysat my granddaughter, Jadyn for her mommy and daddy. We stayed in town for the rest of the week as I had haircut and dentist appointments and I had to drop off our taxes at the CPA's office on Thursday. We have games tonight (Friday) and Saturday and then Dave is going to a Super Bowl party at a friend's house on Sunday. The plan is that I will pick him up after the football game and we will head back home for a couple of days. We have to grab our days at home whenever we can, because I think we have 7 days in Wheeler in February!

GIVE ME A BREAK!!

Well, I haven't ranted for a while, so here goes. The other morning Dave got a voicemail on his cell phone from a doctor's office wanting him to return the call. Well, if the gal had spoken just a little bit clearer and maybe repeated the phone number for us "old" people to understand, we might have been able to return the call. It seems like people don't enunciate very clear these days or maybe I'm getting deaf! I really don't know why people who are "communication-challenged" are given that responsibility. Really though, she did just mumble the message, and someone coughed in the background while she was leaving the callback number, so it was unintelligible. It was from a doctor we never heard of, so we didn't know where to call. I guess if it's serious, they'll call back!
