IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

So, what's up at the Bell household? Well, we have been keeping pretty busy with various projects.

We can stop complaining about the rain for awhile. Summer has come and brought the sunshine! I have been spending time outside working in the yard most of the week. The weeds have taken over around here and I am trying to catch up. My garden is struggling, but maybe with this warmer weather it will survive. I too have been struggling. I have developed arthritis in the fingers of my right hand, so that has put a damper on my working in the yard. But, I am still working through it and try to only work about an hour each day. It is very frustrating.

Jan Yesterday, I asked Dave to take me down the hill with my tools so I could work on the weeds down below. He was busy on another project, so he told me to take the golf cart and drive myself down there. I have never driven one, so he gave me "Golf Cart 101" and sent me on my way. As you can see, I made it!

Lara & Rock Dave, Lara, Leslie Lara and Leslie came down and spent Father's Day with their dad. No grandgirls though, they are either working or off doing their thing. Lara showed us her beautiful diamond engagement ring that Kevin gave her last week. It is huge!! I hope she takes it off when she goes swimming because she may drown from the weight of that ring! Seriously though, she seems very happy and they are making plans for a autumn wedding.

Collage Dave finally got down to Waterfront Park where there is a memorial bench for his parents. The memorial plaque had been pried off by vandals some years ago and he decided that it was finally time to fix it. We had a metal plaque made and Dave used some adhesive that is very strong, so he is pretty sure it can't be removed. That poor bench is made of cement but it hasn't fared very well over the years. Some drunk crashed into it several years ago and we had to get it patched up and then there was the thing with the plaque. But, it should be good to go now. I hope so, because it's a very popular spot for people to sit and admire the view.

We are cleaning up the steamboat so we can trailer it in the Rockaway Beach parade on the 4th. Dave and his cousin Dennis steamed it up and got it running few weeks ago. I cleaned the seat cushions and polished up the brass lanterns. Now that the weather has turned nice, I spent the afternoon vacuuming and washing some of the worst spots on the boat. After Dave finishes re-assembling the engine it will be time to wash it from stem to stern. After the parade, we plan to launch it for the summer and keep it moored down at Kahrs' dock. They are so great about letting us keep it there.

While Leslie was down here, she was up in the attic and found some homemade quilts that Dave's great aunt Lillian had made. Not his mother Lillian, a great aunt with the same name. Two of the quilts are complete and the other two need the backing sewed on. Leslie is going to have Jason's aunt finish them for us as she has a long-arm on her sewing machine and has done it before. Meanwhile, the two quilts that are done by this great aunt, have been gently washed, dried and stored away in acid-free tissue paper. They must be over 100 years old and I want to keep them in good condition.

Dave, Jason, Leslie and I are headed for Redmond, Oregon for a couple of days next week. We have been invited to stay with our friends, George and Margie Blackman. It's going to be hot in Central Oregon and I am looking forward to the warmth. We'll see how I feel about that if the temperature hits 100!

Well, that's my news. You have fun in the sun!
