IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Another week in the books and I am still busy around here.

Jan The kids came down and spent my birthday with me. They gave me a set of nautical lamps for my living room. I mentioned to them about these lamps that I fell in love with at Warehouse 10 in Rockaway Beach but I didn't expect them to get those for me for my birthday. It was really a big surprise. I am trying to go with a nautical theme in the living room. While we were celebrating, they sang "Happy Birthday" and after blowing out the one candle (wouldn't dare put all of the candles on the cake or I would have had to get a fire permit!), we set the cake aside for a dessert treat. Anyway it was a beautiful day and I am so blessed to have such a thoughtful family.

Sign Speaking of gifts, Leslie presented a belated Father's Day gift to her dad. She made a wooden sign to put on his boat trailer when he is towing the Captain Bell. We get so many people slowing down to take a look at the boat while we are towing it. It is distinctive enough to attract attention and I'm sure a lot of people wonder what it is. Now they know.

collage We had a great 4th of July celebration. Lara and her girls stayed down here for a couple of days and Lara bought some fireworks. So as soon as it was dark, it was firecracker time. The girls had great fun and of course I didn't see our cat for a few days but he eventually showed when the coast was clear. Dave also steamed up the Captain Bell and took everyone for a ride. Since we didn't have an Independence Day parade this year, we made our own parade and tooted the whistle while were steaming in Nehalem Bay. This was the first time some of the granddaughters have had a chance to actually be on the boat while it was in the water. They always were being towed on a trailer in the parade and as far as they knew, that's all it did! It has been seven years since it was in the water.

Juan Angel We are still working on developing the living quarters in the old church building. The crew showed up on Monday and they got busy and put the primer on the inside of the kitchen cabinets. They also sanded the sheetrock, so that is now ready to texture and paint. Also, one of the guys was so excited because Dave let him drive the tractor and distribute some gravel in the lower driveway. They won't be back until next week, so I have had a reprieve on feeding everyone.

I have been spending most of my time weeding in the city park! Primarily, it is another friend and I that are doing the weeding and since it hasn't been touched since last spring before it was closed to Covid19, the weeds have really taken over. We have three other volunteers and we sure do appreciate their helping us, but I feel we have hardly put a dent in it and if this keeps up it will be Christmas before it is back in shape. I am putting a couple of hours in on Mondays and Wednesdays and while at the same time trying to keep my own yard up too. I am certainly getting a lot of exercise!

Finger Wednesday, Dave was working in his shop on the table saw when blade caught a piece of wood wrong and the wood got flipped back at him at a hundred miles an hour. It caught his ring finger on his right hand straight on - splitting the finger and possible fracturing the tip of the bone. He drove himself to Urgent Care where they stitched him up. His physician came by while they were treating him and said he was surprised that Dave had anymore fingers to injure. He knows his patient too well!

I picked my first harvest of snow peas and my one "big" tomato. Boy, did they taste good. There is nothing like fresh veggies just picked out of the garden!

We now officially have two granddaughters in college. Paige left Monday for the University of Oregon. Her older sister, Ashtin, will resume her studies as a senior at Western Oregon University in the fall.

I hope everyone is enjoying this nice summer. The weather hasn't been too hot and we have had some rain. I have been too busy to think about going anywhere or seeing anybody (not that we can do that sort of thing now), so I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.
