IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Oil Lamp

We had a terrific storm this week with high winds and heavy rains and losing our power for almost 24 hours and no cable TV or internet to watch either. Now what do we do? It's funny how we get used to having a laptop or cell phone handy and I can't remember what we ever did without them. We did drag out the oil lamp and lit some candles but ended up going to bed early anyway. Also, the wind bent our flag pole (again) so Dave has decided to get a good new one as he is tired of having to replace or repair the old one after each big storm. Our neighbors had a tree fall on their shop and on part of their manufactured home. So I guess we were pretty lucky.

Table

We had to make a couple of trips into the valley this week too. We managed to make it safe and sound but the mountain roads had ice on them and after seeing one car that had crashed on the Quartz Creek Bridge, we decided to slow down and watch the temperature gauge in the car. While we were in Portland, we delivered a table Lara had asked her father to make for her office. So she met us in town and we were able to drop it off without anyone having to make a special trip. The plan was that we were going to come home later that day but it was dark before we knew it and decided to spend the night with Lara in West Linn.

Dave After

Dave Before

The reason we went in on the 23rd was that Dave had decided he was going to have that extra skin on his neck - his "wattle" - removed. The plastic surgeon had told him it was only going to be a one hour surgery but that was before we discovered that there was two hours before the surgery, followed by the surgery, and then three hours after while he was in recovery. We didn't pack for an all day excursion, so that's why we spent the night with Lara. Dave thinks he's glad he did it, but until he gets all the sutures out later today, he looks a bit scary with all those stitches in his neck. He tried to come up with before and after pictures, but I'm not sure how much you can see with these photos. Anyway, that was the middle of our week.

Collage On Christmas morning, we headed into West Salem to have presents and prime rib dinner with our family. We had a great Christmas and got lots of neat stuff like an Oregon Ducks bird house, gift certificate at a nursery and a new juicer for me while Dave scored with a plate of the Captain Bell steamboat that our granddaughter, Jadyn made, an Oregon ducks polo shirt that Dave can wear to watch Paige play soccer at U of O this spring, a new "man cave" sign for his cave in the church, a "fat" tape measure and a phone holder for his car. We spent the night at Alexander's and had a nice visit with everyone.

I for one had a great Christmas and hope everyone else enjoyed the holiday. This year has almost come to an end and we get to start all over. It's hard to believe that this is the final journal of 2019. Happy New Year everyone!
