IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We keep telling people that January is one of the best months to visit our area. All the tourists have gone someplace else and the weather can actually be pretty nice. This month the weather has been nice - in spurts - but the rest of the time it has been really stormy, so we aren't telling anyone that January is nice right now! Today is one of those not-so-nice days, windy and lots of rain, so it's a perfect day to catch up on indoor activities.

Mirror

The old house next door is going to be torn down soon and so Dave was in there looking to see what he could salvage before that happens. One of the things he saw was an old 3 X 6 foot mirror that had seen better days. He called Jason to see if he'd be interested in the mirror and he said yes. Jason and Dave had tried to cut another old mirror down to fit in their bathroom remodel but ended up breaking it, so Dave was pretty sure they could use this one if it was salvageable. It was really dirty so it was hard to tell just what shape it was in. We hauled the mirror to Salem and this time they took it to a professional to have it cut to size. There were a lot of bad parts around the edge, so that worked out just fine - they just cut them off to get to the size they wanted. It turned out that the mirror was just fine after it was trimmed. Jason and Leslie built a frame to go around it and mounted it in their bathroom and it looks great. So, from a piece of garbage that was going to be tossed when the old building is torn down, to a beautiful new mirror for less than fifty dollars was a pretty good deal.

TV

I mentioned last week that the new TV in the guest bedroom wasn't completely installed when I posted the journal - it still needed a shelf for the cable box, and since the TV swivels to face the bed, the box had to be fastened to the TV to make sure it would work. Well, the guys finished that project this week and it looks pretty good with no more exposed wires around it. So, now when you come to visit, you'll have your very own TV in your room!

Birds

I am religious about feeding the wild birds that come to the feeders each day, especially in the winter. Well, the other day they were all patiently waiting up in the tree. I thought that was unusual as they can hardly wait for me to put down the food and leave. So I took a gander outside and discovered the neighbor's cat, Sophie was underneath the deck checking out the mice holes and tunnels that I had uncovered while I was raking up dead debris and leaves under the deck the other day. She could have cared less about the birds as she was so focused on catching mice. She is such a great hunter.

Talk, talk

We had Second Sunday Soup on Sunday night. It was our friends, Patricia and Marv turn to host it this time. She made Mexican Chicken soup, the other couple brought a Mexican salad and I made a chocolate pie. Marv and Patricia invited a real nice couple who had just moved from San Francisco and are renting until their house is finished being built. We do this every two months and next time it will be my turn.

We had such great weather over the weekend so I decided to get outside and wash my dirty windows. Even when the weather is gloomy, at least I don't have to look at dirty windows. The next day, Dave helped me wash the windows downstairs as they needed it too. What a difference!

Class

Thursday, I wanted to attend a Master Gardener class on vegetables and coastal gardening, but we had made an appointment to have the Jeep serviced in Warrenton. So Dave took the Jeep north and I headed for my class south in Tillamook so I could attend the class. We have a huge class this year 24 people, so it was pretty full. There were also people, like me, who attend the class to bone up on different subjects taught. There is so much to absorb in the classes that you just can't do it one time. I saw lots of people I hadn't seen for a long time.

Today, we were going to make a run into Hillsboro so I could have my foot checked to make sure that the planter warts are actually gone. My usual doctor is out so I was scheduled to see someone else. Apparently, my doctor went to Canada to ski and had an injury and is out for a couple more weeks. I guess it happens to all of us! Anyway, I got a call yesterday telling me that I had missed my appointment - that it was on Thursday, not Friday! I'm sure they told me Friday, but now I have been re-scheduled again and I get to go in on Monday. That's a busy day for us. We have water aerobics first thing in the morning. And then, with the holiday, Dave has flags to put out on the streets in the morning and take back out in the afternoon. He also has play rehearsal that evening, so we're just going to see how all this plays out. We'll make it work!

Well, that's all there is folks. I hope you are having a wonderful January.
