IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Collage

It's getting closer! I hope you have all your Christmas preparations done so you can relax and enjoy the holiday. I am still waiting for stuff to be delivered via carrier but have wrapped all the gifts that I can. The house is decorated and I made a batch of cookies. We are going into Salem to be with our families on Sunday so I have to be ready by then!

Last Sunday, I invited all the Park and Rec. committee and their significant others to my house for a holiday celebration. It was potluck and I furnished a ham and we had quite the feast. It was nice to visit with them in a different environment other than working in the park and pulling weeds. After the meal, everyone took home some ham and then with what was left, I made a big pot of ham and bean soup. Some of it we ate and some I put in the freezer.

Stage

Dave and the rest of the Riverbend Players did a special performance of "It's a Wonderful Life" in Astoria on Saturday night. They were excited because it was the first time they've taken one of their performances on the road. They had a full auditorium-sized stage when they performed in Nehalem a couple of weeks ago but the venue in Astoria only had a "postage-stamp" size stage. They made some adjustments and pulled it off. It was a standing-room only audience and it was also another standing ovation. They LOVE those standing ovations! Now it's back to reality for a while. The next play requires a lot of memorization and so he has to start working on that. We'll see how that goes!

We have had quite the wind and rain storms down here. Lots of limbs from the trees had fallen and we checked our weather station and some of the wind gusts were over 40 miles an hour! The waves on the beaches have been high and there has been lots of flooding. During high tide, the island in front of our place was almost under water! We had to make a couple of runs into town this week. Dave had a blood draw followed by a doctor's appointment with his oncologist at the VA. While he was doing that, I ran over to Clackamas Town Center, as I had to get my ear rings checked at the jewelers and then do some last minute shopping. It worked out pretty good, by the time I arrived back at the VA hospital to pick Dave up he was waiting at the curb. The doctor was pleased with his new low numbers for his PSA level (.2) and he doesn't have to return until April.

After I picked up Dave, we headed over to see Lara at her work. She has been taking care of my poinsettia that I had bought from my granddaughter a couple of weeks ago from her dance group fund drive. I was happy that it was still alive. We then made a trip to the bank to pick up some money for the granddaughters for Christmas. Dave had been doing a fund drive for the staff at City Hall. They never get bonuses at Christmas so several people in town pitch in to give them something extra for the holidays. Some people give cash and some people write checks so he had deposited the checks in the bank and he had to go collect it. He is having Santa Claus present the cash to them today. This is a secret so don't tell any of them you know where the bonuses come from, OK?

Also, today I have a foot doctor's appointment in Hillsboro, do some more shopping and then go see Dave's sister, Leanna in Forest Grove. We are also going to a 50th Wedding Anniversary later on for some college friends of ours, Pete and Pat Truax. They live in Forest Grove. Since it will be late before we are done, we are spending the night and coming home on Saturday.

Flagpole

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that our flagpole bent in half in a strong windstorm. Now, the wind was strong, but not THAT strong! Dave admits that he bought a cheap Chinese flagpole off the internet last year and this is the second time it has broken in the wind. Anyway, rather than just go and buy a good flagpole, he was determined to make this one work - again. So, he has been diligently piecing this pole together to make a serviceable mount for the flag. It was while he was doing that, that he discovered all the new rot in the deck. He and Ray finished rebuilding the deck and so now it was time to get the new pole in the air. He and I did that Thursday evening just after the wind quit blowing. We managed to get it upright and get it into the new mount before the wind kicked up again. So anyway, we now have a flagpole again - at least until the next windstorm!

Do you remember me telling you about the new kitten the neighbors got last summer? Well, she and Jerry have become quite good buddies and she frequently joins him for breakfast in the morning. He doesn't mind sharing his food, but the other morning she came in and she got a mouse under the utility room sink! We could almost hear her say, "I'll get my own food thank you!" We didn't even know we had a mouse in the house, but she did! She has turned into quite the hunter.

Well, everyone have a very Merry Christmas.
