IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Well, the holiday season seems to be in full swing around here with Christmas songs, decorations up and lights glowing in the dark. It is the only holiday that I can think of that runs for the whole month. I went to my first Christmas bazaar last weekend and it was so crowded that I could hardly move. I didn't stay long as I don't like crowds, but it did put me in the spirit just the same. I went home and got all my Christmas decorations out and even got the tree decorated. I am still working on my Christmas cards.

We finished with the kitchen project and I am so pleased with the way it turned out. Dave and our contractor, Ray got the stove and new sink back in and then applied the Z-brick and new backsplash behind the stove. I just love it! It looks just as I had envisioned it, though I wasn't sure how I was going to get the material to make it happen. I you have been reading this all along, you know how I managed to score some obsolete 50-year old Z-brick that matches the rest of the kitchen perfectly. Dave also installed "under the cabinets" lights, so I have plenty of lighting now.

We had to make two separate trips to Portland last week. On Monday, Dave had an appointment with the VA to have an evaluation. He is hoping that the VA will agree that the Prostate Cancer is as a result of his Agent Orange exposure while he was in Viet Nam. They have already said that his Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma was a result of his AO exposure, so there is a good possibility that they will say the same for this cancer. That way, if something happens to him as a result of the Prostate Cancer, I will still receive his benefits after he is gone. I know - it is kind of weird, but his oncologist thought that it would be a good idea so we're doing it. Anyway, while we were in town, we stopped by and had coffee with our shirt-tail relatives, Terri and Kay. Kay has so many stories to share about the family. We really enjoyed our visit with them; we just don't get to do it very often.

Tuesday, it was another trip into town as I had made an appointment with a podiatrist in Hillsboro. I wanted to get a second opinion on my wart problem since the other doctor has kind of written me off. The new guy (who I had seen before) gave me a prescription that I apply over the warts and then use duct tape over them. I do this twice a day. Dave got a kick out of that as we now have a new use for duct tape!! I hope this works.

Jerry and Sophie

Our cat, Jerry has a new BFF. The neighbors bought a kitten last summer and Sophie has kind of made herself at home around here. She sure has Jerry wrapped around her paw as he lets her eat out of his dish. I kind of think he likes the company. Anyway it's fun to see them together.

The weather has been cold but sunny. My Rhododendron has buds on it and I am afraid that if it decides to bloom there will be a rude awakening. Most of the east winds have blown the leaves off the trees so everything looks barren. We have gotten some winter birds in, the Chick-a-Dees, Towhees and Juncos have arrived.

Dave has spent the week pretty much like last week - working on the steamboat. He wants to get it ready to put in the water next spring and doesn't want to wait until then to start getting ready. He was going to move it outside and fire it up yesterday, but I came up with too many other "honey-do" things for him to work on, so maybe today. The weather has been sunny, but chilly. We'll see how much he wants to sit outside in the cold waiting for the boiler to make steam.

That's all the news this way, I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season.
