IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Oven

Dave, Ray

All is good this week. We got the kitchen back in working order and so I am doing my happy dance. Dave and Ray installed the wall oven and fixed the shelf for the microwave to be above it. It is a little high if you are a short person but it is fine for Dave and me. So now I can bake once more. Also, the dishwasher repairman arrived with the new pump so we don't have to do the dishes by hand anymore. That was beginning to get a bit tiring! There is the trim to be installed on the microwave and some cabinet work to do yet. Ray is going to put sliding drawers on a couple of my shelves so I don't have to get on my hands and knees to get something way back of those cupboards. It is so nice to be able to use an oven and dishwasher once again. We don't realize how much we take those things for granted until we can't use them.

We have also been doing a little painting. We had the back door painted a couple of months ago and some of the paint on the outside of the door was sticking to the weather-stripping. I don't think it was dry before we re-hung it and so it sticks shut and is hard to open. Anyway, Dave sanded the part of the door that needed repainting and I finished it. Hopefully, this time it will get completely dry before we try to close it.

A friend of ours at the pool (morning water aerobics) has a hotdog venue in Manzanita where he raises money for kids. It is called the Mudd-Nick Foundation and so he sells "Mudd Dogs" (His name really is Mudd). We went over there the other day for lunch to try them out. They were original Chicago hotdogs and buns and boy were they delicious. He is just there during the summer in the tourist season and closes up after Labor Day so I am glad we were able to get over there before he packs it up for the season.

We are celebrating two birthdays this weekend. Ashtin's birthday was on Wednesday (August 29th) and she turned nineteen. Wow, that is hard to believe! Also, Dave is having a birthday on Monday (September 3rd) and he is now even with me at 76 and that is hard to believe too! Everyone is coming down here this weekend to celebrate.

Speaking of Ashtin's birthday, here is one of her mother's Facebook posts from Wednesday:

Today has been a roller coaster of emotions. It's Ashtin's 19th birthday and that is something to celebrate. It also would have been Shad's 45th birthday. They celebrated every year together. This is the first time she didn't get a call from him wishing her a happy birthday. She has wanted a tattoo in his memory since he has passed. She has thought long and hard and decided on their astrological sign with a halo around it. They are Virgos.

Shad was Jason's brother - Ashtin's uncle. The tattoo is on her ankle.

I spent some time working in the park during the work party on Wednesday. There was so much to do and it was getting overgrown with weeds. It is hard to keep up with the weeds when there are only two able bodies trying to do all the work. We had a volunteer appreciation day last Saturday and were hoping that people would come out and enjoy a hot dog and sign up to volunteer. We didn't have much of a response from the community. I know there are a lot of "old" people who live in Wheeler and they do appreciate all the work we do, but we are getting "old" too.

My vegetable garden is producing; I now am harvesting cucumbers, beans and tomatoes. I love this time of year with so many fresh fruits and vegetables to eat.
