IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

August, all ready!! Where has the summer gone?

Wyatts

Last Saturday, we bid good-bye to my cousin Mike and his wife, Sheryle. We had a good time visiting with them and getting caught up with their lives. They have a new RV and have been doing quite a lot of traveling through the west. After visiting with us, they headed north to Black Lake which is near Olympia, Washington to spend some time with their daughter's family. Mike and Sheryle live in Henderson (near Las Vegas) and enjoyed our much cooler weather here on the coast while they were here.

We headed into West Salem on Saturday where the temps were in the high 90's, leaving 70 degrees behind. We hadn't seen our granddaughter Ashtin since she came back from her trip to France and Spain and we wanted to hear all about it. She had a fantastic trip and really took some nice pictures. Also, I had to get caught-up with her sister Paige, who I hadn't taken out to Red Robin for her birthday yet. That was in April! I think I have all the birthdays caught up now with everyone except Ashtin whose birthday is the end of August. Dave also had to pick up some electrical wire that Jason had arranged to get wholesale. Dave needed it so he could start wiring the church. He has been using extension cords run from the house and the boat barn and is anxious to get some real electricity down there. Meanwhile, I got talked into getting my old Android cell phone exchanged for an iPhone. Jason and Leslie had an unused iPhone 6S that had belonged to one of the granddaughters, so I got it! Since my old phone was both Android and old, I had a bit of a learning curve to get used to it. As it turns out, I think it is a much easier phone to use! I am loving it and now everyone in the family has iPhones.

The summer traffic has been crazy down here, especially on the weekends. Sometimes I have to let two minutes of traffic go by before I can pull out from our street on to Highway 101. If I am going to Tillamook, I have been taking the long-way around, using the inland route on Miami Foley Road. It may be a bit longer and I have to start out going north to travel south but I get there quicker just the same. There are so many tourists and people from the city trying to get away from the heat.

Here's a picture that serves to remind us why we love it here in spite of the traffic. Dave was down at the dock cleaning the boat when he got this photo of a Great Blue Heron "fishing" on the dock next to him. They are such magnificent birds and it's a treat to be able to see one just ten feet away!

I have been having Physical Therapy on my ankle and it has really helped - I am moving so much better!. Today is my final treatment and I am happy that I don't have to make the trip to Tillamook anymore. I am still working on my balance so I can climb up and down these hills around here. I am also back to my water aerobics class which I have missed.

We wrapped up the week with a trip to Warrenton. Actually two trips as it turns out. Since we're going to be taking the steamboat to the annual meet in August, we needed to get the trailer lights working. Dave had messed with them but there was a problem with the Ford that kept them from working right. So, he took it to the dealership to get that taken care of. We don't usually go there without running some other errands, so we hit Costco, Home Depot and Staples at the same time. The shop ended up keeping the car for the night, so we get to go right back there today to pick it up. Did I mention it is an hour each way through tourist traffic? I'll be glad when we can finally get it home and start getting the boat and trailer ready for the meet.

Oh! Last week, I said that my new oven would be here by now. NOT!! We got the news from the salesman that delivery has been delayed and I'll be lucky if I get it by the middle of August! That did not go over real well, believe me! I'm having to get real creative in the kitchen without that oven. Thank goodness it is summer and I can use the barbecue.

That's about all the news around here; taking care of the garden and watering has been taking a lot of my day.
