IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I hope everyone is enjoying these hot summer days. It has been too hot in some places but here at the coast it has been a perfect 70-75 degrees. The fog in the mornings has been really thick and sometimes we can't even see past the deck until after breakfast. That always happens when it is hot inland. I guess we should be careful what we wish for! At any rate, it burns off by mid-morning and the rest of the day is perfect.

Oven

The oven repairman showed up with the new element for my wall oven but after he removed the old element, he found that the oven was sort of disintegrating and was so bad that he couldn't fix it. He even disconnected the power to it in fear of me setting the house on fire! Well, the oven is over 40 years old and I guess they don't last forever. So we ordered a new one which should be arriving in a week. I have been without an oven for almost a month but between the barbeque and the microwave, I have managed to get by.

Our yard is looking pretty good. I had some help when I hired someone to come in a clear all the brush and debris from an area by our street and uncover some bushes that had been choked out for years. I can actually see the street from our house now.

Wyatts

Wyatts

We had visitors this week, my cousin and his wife from Henderson, Nevada came by for a few days. Mike and Sheryle have a motor home so it is easy having them as they can sleep in their own house. Thursday evening, we took them out in our little boat and went to Nehalem for ice cream. It was great to get caught up with them on what they have been doing - mainly a lot of traveling in their motor home. They are enjoying our nice weather as it has been 115 degrees at their home near Las Vegas!

My poor left foot. After breaking it last March, I now have two planter warts on it. I finally got tired of hobbling around and made an appointment with the foot doctor. She dug around on my heel and put some wart killer on it. I could hardly walk for a couple of days! Will this ever end?!!

Birds

Dave and I started back into our water aerobics this week. The pool was closed for a few days last week because they were working on the old water pipes. The showers hardly work, the water is lukewarm and there is not much pressure. They were supposed to fix the problem but there is not much improvement - at least in the women's locker room. I hear the men are tickled to death about all the hot water and the nice pressure they have over there! So I think we women have to have a heart-to-heart chat with the powers-that-be about that trickle of water they call a shower on our side! The pool is over 60 years old and really should be replaced and they are trying to raise money for that. Hopefully in my life time!

All my birds have disappeared. There were no finches this year and even the blue jays don't come around anymore. I think I know what happened. We got some new neighbors a month ago and this strange cat has been wandering through the yard and I noticed a few tail feathers on the ground. I think he is the culprit! I did get a couple of goldfinches late this week, but nothing like the swarms of them we have had in the past. We do still have a few squirrels and Dave took this picture of some "love birds" that still come around.

Stay cool out there!!
