IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Back Wall

Let me catch my breath for a moment while I fill you in on my week. We have a number of projects that we have been working feverishly on to try to get done before the weather changes. We have been thankful that the days have been sunny and warm but it is beginning to get cold at night and we know that the rainy season is just around the corner.

One of the projects that we have been working on is getting the new siding on the church completed. We decided to re-do the front and the back of the building with cedar siding and use the shakes we removed to fill in the areas on both sides. Our contractor finally showed up with a helper and they worked a couple of days taking the old shakes off the front of the building and replacing them with the cedar siding. They even stayed an extra day just so they could get the building completely done. That will probably be the last thing we do this year, the rest (window repair and painting) will probably have to wait until later. Luis is without his usual gang of Cubans to help him (they all left for Houston for hurricane relief work) so he is trying to manage with whatever help he can get. This time, he came down with John who was a little help but has a very sore foot - he can hardly walk. Still, we appreciated them staying until the job was done.

There are two fences alongside the greenhouse (one on either side) and they're pretty beat up, so we decided to replace them. Well, actually I decided a long time ago to get that project on the "to-do" list, but it kept getting delayed. Yesterday, Dave had some time between his other projects, so he tore the old fences down. The fencing was so rotten that most of it just came out by the handful. He picked up some new fence boards and some decorative lattice for the top and then he set up a paint station for me. So I have been spending my afternoons painting. Afternoons, because this time of year it's too cold and damp until the sun has had a chance to warm things up. That's usually after lunch. I am just about done painting the boards, so Dave can probably put it all together sometime today. It is easier to paint everything before it is assembled. I'll have a picture of the completed fences next week.

Team

Last weekend, we had to go into town on Friday as Dave had a Trail Blazer production meeting to attend. It's that time of year again. In fact, they had their first pre-season game already. After the meeting we headed over to Lara's as we were going to attend the West Linn football game as Jadyn who is a freshman was dancing during half-time. She is on the dance team and just found out that - in addition to all of her other activities - she was chosen to be on the hip hop squad as well. Turns out she's the only freshman on both the hip hop and contemporary squads. This week, she was also recognized by her coaches as doing an outstanding job. She is a very good - and very dedicated dancer and I'm glad her coaches recognize that. Anyway, back to the football game. Since West Linn was leading 49-0 at half-time, we decided to leave right after Jadyn danced. We didn't have far to go as we spent the night at their place.
Jaysa (Lara's middle one) had a spill at her gymnastic class. She fell off the bars and landed on her arm. Lara took her in for an x-ray (negative) and they said if she didn't feel well by Thursday, she had to go in for another x-ray to see if she hadn't broken anything. They did that yesterday and the report is that they can find no fracture, but she is being referred to an orthopedic doctor for further evaluation. She'll probably wind up at Randall Children's Hospital for that.

Crabbers

On Saturday, we were going to stick around for Jordyn's soccer tournament but got a call that company was down at our place and they wanted to use the boat to go crabbing. So we headed home promising Jordyn that we would see her play before the season ends. As it turns out, her team won the Championship.

Meanwhile, we made it home by noon and Shad and Anna and their friends were anxious to go crabbing. Dave showed them how to run the boat and off they went. They came back with three crabs minus one crab ring! So we got another new crab ring and this time Dave got some bright fluorescent orange paint and painted the buoys so boats could spot them floating in the water and quit running over them. Over a period of time, we've lost three of them and two of them were run over by other boats.

Well, that's my week and I hope things settle down a bit.
