IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

It's been two weeks now and I am improving every day with my bumps and bruises. I am still missing my tooth. I go back to the dentist on Wednesday and hopefully he will put in a temporary or something to fill that gap. My knee still has a big lump on it and my lower lip is still a little swollen. I do have an appointment next week to have my balance checked and my ears examined in case my Vertigo is back. I did feel like going back in the water this week for my aerobics classes this week, so things are looking up.

I do have to tell a story about me. When I had my fall, I really scratched the lenses on my glasses. However, they were under warranty, so the eye care office ordered me some new lenses. When those arrived, they didn't fit my glasses. The eye care people sent them back to the lab with instructions to make them to fit my prescription. Evidently, the lab contacted the office and said those ARE the right lenses. So they called me and asked me if I was sure I was wearing my new glasses when I fell. I said "Of course I'm sure, but I'll look around. Well, it so happens that after checking my drawer where I keep my "old" glasses, I found my "new" glasses - still in their case and I had never worn them. They had been in there for over a year! I didn't realize I was still wearing my old glasses because the prescription wasn't that different. I sure felt dumb though.

Cubans

Cubans

We had a fiesta last Sunday at our place. Our contractor Luis - who is originally from Mexico - has a bunch of Cubans working for him. Several of them have worked on our place and have stayed with us. Several of them came down to the coast just to have a Cuban dinner with us and we had quite a Latin/American cultural experience. None of them spoke English and of course we don't speak Spanish, so we pulled out our phones and used the translator app to converse. Because of a mix-up, we ended up with Mexican rather than Cuban food, but we still had a great time with lots of food. Homemade tortillas and tacos, chicken, beef and vegetables and I furnished smoked salmon, raw vegetables and chips and salsa. What was funny was that - as I said - they were supposed to bring the food and when they arrived empty-handed, I started searching my cupboards in a frenzy trying to find something to feed them! As it turned out, Luis knew about the breakdown in communications and wound up bringing all the food but he didn't arrive until a couple of hours later. So we sat around eating snacks and drinking beer until he arrived. We have learned that when they say they will arrive at a certain time, it is usually two hours later!

Hedge

I've said before that I have a hard time staying indoors when the weather is good. There's just too much to do and I hate to waste the sunshine by sitting around inside. Well, the weather has been perfect and I'm feeling better, so I got busy and trimmed some of my hedges that were getting out of control. With all the rain we had last spring, it sure made things take off. The hedge at the rear of the house is small enough that I could tackle it with the electric hedge trimmer. It's on fairly level ground and I'm able to get completely around it to trim it. On the other hand, the Escalonia hedge in front also needs to be trimmed, but it is blooming right now, so I will wait awhile. When the time comes, I think I'll get someone to do that. It's a much larger hedge and on uneven ground. Meanwhile, my garden is producing cucumbers and lots of lettuce. The green beans will be late this year thanks to the slugs who trimmed them back for me. The tomatoes are coming on and the cherry tomatoes can't ripen fast enough to keep up with the demand!

Alexanders

Chip

We went into the valley on Wednesday. We had a bunch of errands to do and were spending the night with Leslie and her family so we could drive them to the airport the next morning. They are flying to Houston and then to Galveston where they will board their cruise ship. For a graduation present, they are taking a trip to Mexico, Belize and Honduras. Meanwhile, we are dog sitting their Chocolate Lab "Chip" while they are gone. So far, we've managed to avoid any conflict between Chip and Jerry, the feral cat. Right now, we're keeping them in separate parts of the house and that's working, but conflict is probably inevitable.

While we were out and about in town, we drove by Lara's place to deliver about 6 bags of cans and bottles. Jadyn is cashing in the deposits and saving the money she gets for her trip to the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida in December. Her dance team gets to perform at half-time. We have a connection down here with bottles and cans. A friend of ours cleans up vacation rentals and gives us all the cans and bottles that are left behind by the renters.
