IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

We can turn the page to another month as it is now February.

After spending a few days in warm, sunny Arizona, it is back to realty and cold, wet Oregon.

We had a really nice time on our little get-away to Arizona. We had to get out of bed and down to PDX by 4:30 a.m. last Thursday Yes, I didn't type the time wrong. Our flight left at 5:50 a.m. and so we had to get there early. We had spent the night with our daughter in West Linn so Lara dropped us off that morning. We went via Southwest Airlines and so the earlier you get your boarding passes, the earlier you are to board the plane and pick your seat. There are no seat assignments like other airlines. It worked out great and since Dave always takes his cane, we get to board early anyway. After we arrived, we got our car - a Chrysler 300 - and headed over to our hotel. Since we couldn't check in until 3:00 p.m. that day, we met up with my sister, Jeanne and her husband Bob and spent some time at their son's place. The rest of her family gathered there too and we had a good ol' spaghetti feed that evening.

The weather in Phoenix was on the cool side when we arrived. In fact it felt warmer in Portland than Phoenix because we had an east wind blowing. We didn't even bother to put on our swim suits. But by Saturday, the day of the wedding, it was a little warmer. The wedding was nice and they had about 200 people attend. The reception was going to be held outside, but they decided to move it indoors at the last minute because it was a little cool outside. Actually, it was in the high 60's, but you know those Arizona people. The reception was a dessert bar with candy, brownies and other sweet treats. We were sure glad that we had eaten a late lunch. They had a DJ who was a lot of fun and a photo booth to have your picture taken. It was all enjoyable but Dave and I left before it was over because we were tired and had had a long day.

On Sunday, the weather finally got into the 70's and the warmth of the sun felt so good. After church, we met with some friends, Mike and Pam Means and my sister, Jeanne and her husband Bob and went out for Mexican food. You can't go to Arizona without trying that delicious food. Later that evening, we were invited to my nephew Jesse's place for a chili cookout. He has a lemon tree that was loaded with fruit and so I picked a couple of bags of lemons to bring home. We were hoping we were going to be able to do that so we brought a folding suitcase along with us to carry our bounty. It seemed like we spent a lot of time eating this trip.

Monday, we met my sister and decided to go see a movie. We saw "Hidden Figures" which I highly recommend. It is about three African-American women who were math geniuses that worked at NASA during the early space flights. It is based a true story.

Jordyn

Tuesday, we headed for home. Our flight this time left Phoenix at 5:20 p.m. so we had plenty of time. We checked in our car and bags and then waited at the airport for our flight. We were plenty early, but that was okay as we didn't have anything else going on. Our daughter Lara once again picked us up from the airport and then we spent the night with her before we headed home the next day.

Jan, Kay

While we were in town, Dave and I went to visit two of our favorite people - Kay and Terrie - who we like to call our "shirttail relatives". We are always welcome there and the coffee is always ready. After getting caught up with the latest, we made it back to pick up our youngest granddaughter Jordyn after school. It was her ninth birthday. So after she came home from school, I took her out shopping for her birthday. She came home with a new swim suit and a couple of tops that she liked. It was getting late and we wanted to get home before the weather turned bad so when we come in next week, we will take her out to Red Robin to finish the birthday celebration.

I have been spending the rest of the week getting caught up with mail and laundry. It is good to be back but I do miss that warm Arizona sunshine.
