IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!! (Friday the 13th besides)

This has been a more typical of our week than in the past blog.

Last weekend was fairly nice but cold so we decided to put up the house sign that has been leaning against the bank out by the driveway for the past couple of years. Dave had a friend make us an address sign out of steel with the steamboat on it. After sitting outside in the dirt for way too long, Dave finally made a frame for it and put a couple of boat wheels on it that help to visually balance the heavy frame. The framed sign has been blocking the garage door and Dave was tired of fighting it so he decided the time had come to get it mounted where it was supposed to go. It took more than a half a day - even with the tractor - but between the two of us we were able to muscle the thing into place. The thing is pretty heavy and it took both of us to level it up. It looks pretty good even though we still have it braced until it settles.

With all the stormy (even snow) here, we have been staying pretty close to home. We ventured out on Tuesday and drove into Portland only because we had a couple of doctor appointments. The drive over the coast range was slow going as the entire area around the summit was covered with snow and ice. It was pretty well sanded but even so, there's always that one driver who is going to hold everyone else up. One car had ten cars following him at 25 miles per hour because nobody could pass and he wouldn't (or couldn't) pull over and let traffic by. But there was really a lot of snow up at the summit where and we drove especially careful. Since it was a round trip, we had to go through that twice.

We made it to Hillsboro where I got my teeth cleaned and Dave and I then made the journey into downtown Portland to see a "new" doctor who was recommended by the Nose, Throat and Eye specialist for Dave The new doctor specializes only in the larynx and since the NTE had checked his throat and he was still coughing, he recommended this doctor. It was an interesting visit. The first thing he did was run a camera down Dave's throat and made him sing and make different sounds so he could watch his vocal chords move. Since everything looked normal and he has had this cough for a very long time, the doctor thought it might be something in his brain triggering him to cough. So, another prescription to see if that helps.

After our appointments, we made a few more stops, had an early dinner and decided that the snowflakes were beginning to fall and we had better make our get-away for home. This was Tuesday and we are so glad we left when we did as Portland received a record snow fall that evening. The drive home was fine with little traffic but we were glad to make it safe and sound.

I have been having an interesting experience. When I left the dentist on Tuesday, after I sat up from the dentist chair, I got real dizzy. I managed to stagger out of the dentist office but really felt nauseous for about three hours after that. The next morning, I felt the same and was even throwing up because of all the dizziness. That evening, Dave finally talked me into going over to the Urgent Care to see what was going on. The doctor said I was dehydrated and gave me something for my nausea and an IV drip to get some fluids in me. I did feel better, but that was after I threw up in the parking lot as we were getting ready to come home. So, I am filling up with plenty of water but the dizziness hasn't gone away. I made an appointment with my regular doctor for next week just to get a second opinion.

Meanwhile, I don't feel comfortable driving and of course Dave is on so many medications, he doesn't like to drive for more than about a half hour either. So, we have been staying pretty close to home and leaving only when we have to. We leave for Arizona two weeks from today, and we're really hoping we both feel better by then.

I hope everyone has survived the snow and ice and are keeping warm. Take care.
