ITS FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

The dog days of summer are almost over and the feeling of cooler nights makes me think that fall is just around the corner. My garden is just about done, which seems early this year. It is still producing loads of green beans and tomatoes though.

The Park and Rec. Committee had a birthday/memorial party last Friday. A dear friend of the community, Faith Dorothy passed away last December and it was decided to place a plaque on the park sign which she had implemented, and since it would have been her 90th birthday on Friday, we decided to celebrate. So the park committee, friends and community members got together and we had a party with cake and ice cream. It was a hot day, but we put up a tent to have some shade sat around remembering Faith and what a generous and wonderful person she was.

On Saturday, we headed into Tillamook so Dave could see the "Old Iron" show exhibit. It is held every year and they have exhibits on old tractors and machinery, as well as cars and such. They also have vendors where you can always pick up a few bargains. Dave always finds something at the swap meet, but this year he only came home with one item. The traffic was bumper-to-bumper in Tillamook and we think everyone from Portland drove down to the coast that day to escape the 100 plus heat. Traffic was lined up for miles in and around Tillamook. After the show, we stopped in Rockaway where we went to the North County Food Bank's fish fry. We support the fundraiser and enjoy the food and the camaraderie, but getting into Rockaway in summer is another matter and then finding a place to park is always a challenge. After the fish fry we headed home to more quiet surroundings.

The rest of the week it has been water aerobics and trying to stay cool. For the most part, the temperatures have been in the high 80's and flirting with 90. Dave has been building and re-building the tail gate on our little trailer. He is spending most of his days outside which is a good thing because it keeps him busy and not just sitting around waiting for his arm to heal. Somehow the trailer job has turned out to be quite a project and he certainly has more patience than me getting it to turn out. He thought it would take him two days, and so far he's up to ten - and it's not done yet! Oh well, Edison worked on many projects before he got it right. Right? Terrie & Stan

We had a surprise phone call from some old friends of ours the other day. Stan and Terri Boyd moved to Florida several years ago after they retired. They were in Hillsboro visiting friends and family. So they came by to see us on Thursday and we got caught up with what they have been up to. They were on a tight schedule but we managed a quick visit and lunch at the Big Wave before they had to move on. It was nice to see them again.

Ashtin & Paige

I've mentioned a couple of times on here that Ashtin and Paige will be on the same soccer team for the first time. Ashtin is a senior at Silverton High School and Paige is a freshman. We've waited a long time to see the two of them playing together, and their first game is next Thursday in Eugene. We plan to be there to watch. I'm not sure how that is going to affect getting this journal out by early Friday morning, but we'll figure a way to get it done.

Our church project is moving along...well, sort of. The guys came last week and dug drainage ditches in the ground where we had removed the floor. There are three springs that run through the ground under that building during the rainy season and we are putting in a drainage system so the water won't pool up under the floor. We had got the drain pipe and ordered the rock and then the work crew was supposed to return on Tuesday to finish the job. But they didn't make it. After several phone calls and texts, we finally heard from them and hopefully they will be here on Saturday. Let's keep our fingers crossed. Once we get the drain in, we will be able to replace the floor joists and put in a new floor. We will then be able to use the old church building for storage once again.

Also, Saturday I am meeting with a friend for lunch and then take a tour of homes in Manzanita. It will give me some ideas if I ever get the urge to do some remodeling. Also, I will see how the other half lives!
