IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Mickey

We were going to get up early last Sunday to have a family "Father's Day" celebration but decided to go in on Saturday and spend the night. Our granddaughter, Paige was invited to play in a basketball tournament with the girl's varsity team from Silverton High School and we wanted to see how she did playing with the "big" girls. She is going to be a freshman next year so this was big time for her. She did pretty good, scoring three goals and guarding her defendant pretty good. They didn't play their best and lost but it was fun just the same. Her sister Ashtin was there with her teammates as well, but she still has another month in her recovery from the torn ACL. It will be fun to watch both girls play on the same team this winter.

On Father's Day we had a brunch over at Lara's place (before the next basketball game) and the guys opened their presents. Dave got the cutest t-shirt from the granddaughters. Unfortunately, he won't be able to wear it until he gets his hardware off - the brace won't fit through the arm holes. He also got a gift certificate to Home Depot which he can always use. We drove back home later that afternoon with lots of traffic heading back from the coast because of the weekend.

Monday, I tried working out in the yard because it was a really nice day. The wind was blowing and caused my allergies to flare up so I have been fighting that all week. My eyes were so bad they burned and I have been coughing all week from my dripping sinuses. I guess I have all summer to get my yard in shape, just as long as the wind doesn't blow!!

We had a visit from our friend Donna Kahrs' grandson the other day. A few days ago, Des and Donna were over visiting at our place and Donna was all excited about this gift that she had ordered for Dave. She wouldn't tell us what it was so we had to wait until it arrived. Well, Taylor - who is 8 years old - came racing down the train tracks from their house to deliver the gift. He was so excited to give us the present. That crazy Donna had bought Dave a motion light for the toilet. It is all set up to turn on when we stumble into the bathroom in the middle of the night. This light (select one of eight colors) comes on to show us the way! Taylor got it programmed for us and now we will never have to turn the switch on in the bathroom in the middle of the night again! Donna is always coming up with some crazy thing and it is hard to try to out-do her sometimes!

We lost our 40-year old Smoke Tree the other day. It was blown over in the 2007 wind storm that we had but we propped it up with a wooden crutch. After 9 years we thought it would be safe to remove the crutch as the crutch was falling apart. But we had a bad hail and wind storm and it blew over once more. One of the major roots was broken and we couldn't save it. I am really bummed about it as it was such a beautiful tree. But, as I was looking for another, I noticed that 7-Dees Nursery was having 30% off their trees so off I went and I bought a new one. It is waiting in the wings until my son-in-law comes down to cut up the old one.

Pruitts

We had a pleasant surprise on Tuesday. Leanna's son, Dean and wife Brenda with their four boys showed up. They have been on the road from Lansing, Michigan. Brenda accepted a job at Boeing and they are moving back to the Northwest (Seattle Area). They stopped along the way on their way from Lansing, seeing some of America, Mt. Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, the Redwoods and Crater Lake before they arrived to see Leanna. Also, later that evening her other son, Luke arrived and that was really a surprise. He also drove from Michigan and has been out here a couple of weeks staying with friends in Washington until he can find a job. We had a nice visit and the next day they left for Bothell, Washington to get settled in their new apartment. They are renting for awhile until they can find a home up there.

Thursday I had to work at the OSU Extension office for the Master Gardener's program. There were three of us and not that much to do. We got all the requests done in an hour and then just sat around talking the rest of the time.

My sister Jeanne and husband Bob arrived from England on Monday evening. They came to see Bob's sister who was ill with cancer. Unfortunately, she passed away before they arrived. Bob will do the memorial service on Saturday and then they will fly to Phoenix to see their kids. They are coming down to see us today and stay for dinner and spend the night.

Arm

Dave is getting better but is still in pain. He is trying to cut back on his pain meds as he doesn't want to take them unless he really needs them. He is getting accustomed to eating left-handed but he relies on me for most of his other necessities. In fact, I had to put on my nursing hat the other day. At our last visit to the doctor's office, the doctor had given me a bag full of dressing materials and I was told to change his dressing every few days. So it was like a puzzle, taking off the first layer and placing it in a line until all the various bandages, tapes and patches were all in order. I did okay, but considering my attention span, I should have taken a video. I got everything back in order and by the time these eight weeks are up I should be a professional. Hum... five more weeks to go.
