IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

The first part of this week's journal will be a repeat of last week's - for those who missed that one.

Clue

Since my webmaster was unable to post my journal for last week, he decided to combine the two weeks.. Keep reading and I'll explain why.

Lara's family came last weekend because the granddaughters had three-days off for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday. The girls helped G-dad put the flags out bright and early on Saturday and later he treated them to donuts from the bakery. In spite of the cool and cloudy weather, they still went swimming at the Nehalem indoor pool. Their dad also took them up to Seaside where they rode the bumper cars and visited the candy store. Later, they watched movies and played the game of Clue. While Greg was here, he went across the street from our house and cut down a tree that was blocking our view. It had been a few years since he had cut it and it had grown quite a bit.

We have been getting ready for our annual city cleanup where the city brings in two large dumpsters and the citizens of our village can bring their trash and yard debris down to city hall to have it processed. We also had a list of for people who couldn't bring their stuff down and we picked it up. Anyway, Dave and I have been cleaning out the church on our property so we can get ready to put the floor back in. That will be a major job, but this will give us more space to store some of our trailers, Kubota tractor and wood. We had quite a bit of stuff to donate to the dumpsters when it was all over.

The park committee got busy on Wednesday and cleaned up the area around city hall. It was getting a little weedy but cleaned up nicely. We wanted it to look nice for the annual clean up.

IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Now the reason this journal is so late this time. While Dave and Mike Anderson were dismantling an old boat for the clean-up day for a woman in our community, Dave slipped on some gravel in her driveway and fell on his right wrist. It shattered the radius and severed an artery. Mike had to call 911 because Dave was bleeding pretty badly - like, a lot. After the ambulance came and took him to the hospital, the doctor had to operate on his wrist and - since it wasn't a clean break but was more like a jigsaw puzzle - he had to screw in what is called an "External Fixator" apparatus that looks like a towel rack to his arm. You can look it up if you are curious. Since he lost a lot of blood, the doctor kept him in the hospital for a few days. Of course it was his right hand so he has to learn to use his left hand for the next eight weeks until the External Fixator gets removed. He has been pretty helpless. I have been his nurse, pharmacist, chauffeur and valet, helping him get dressed and showering and shaving. The poor guy, it seems here lately, he just gets over one thing and then something else happens to him. I think his body is telling him "time out". I have been trying to keep him as comfortable as possible.

Dave went back to the doctor on Wednesday where he cleaned his wounds and changed his dressing. He will go back again on June 15th to see how he is doing and then it will be up to me to change the dressing after that. I hope I can remember it all.

I have been watering quite a bit so that has been taking up a lot of my time, keeping my garden alive from the heat. My beans that I replanted are up, so are the snow peas, lettuce and tomatoes. I had a lot of extra time on my hands while Dave was in the hospital, so I think I'm just about caught up again.

We named the new Columbia Gray squirrel that has been coming to our feeders regularly - Earl the squirrel. He seems to fit right in with the rest of the wildlife around here, although our feral cat has been stalking him.

This weekend, we were going drive into town to attend our granddaughter's 8th grade graduation on Friday and attend a dinner invitation by the Trail Blazer announcer, Brian Wheeler on Saturday. That is if Dave is up to all this socializing. He may not be though, and Paige has already given him a "pass" on the graduation. We will try to make the Blazer affair, though. Dave has been looking forward to that for quite a while.
