IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Jan, Beets

I'm loving this nice sunny weather. It has given me a chance to be outside in the yard. I went to a plant sale at the Alder Creek Farm last weekend and came home with all kinds of things: A cherry tomato, cucumbers, and some herbs. After I drove to the nursery to pick up some garden soil, I got busy and planted my garden. I got the tomato plant in, carrots, beets, beans and lettuce. I still want to get a few more cucumbers and a couple of tomato plants, which I will do this Saturday at the Master Gardener's plant sale.
I am working at the plant sale today and tomorrow. It's a big job, we have lots of volunteers and I'm glad I participate every year. There is a good chance I won't dive right into my own garden as soon as it's over, however!

Pulling Weeds

I also got some weeding done in one of my flower beds. The bed was full of these early spring bulbs called snow drops and they had spread throughout the bed, mixing in with the rest of my plants. I had to dig around them and transplant them so I could get rid of all the bulbs. I am sure I missed a few and they will crop up again next year. I also divided up my Autumn Joy and potted some of them up for the plant sale. After a couple of hours doing that job (which didn't look like I got much accomplished), I could hardly move from all the spading and pulling I did.

We have been busy putting our house back together after getting it painted. We bought new outdoor lights and Dave re-sanded and varnished the hand rail. We are still at a standoff as to what color the house is - off white or driftwood gray, although I think Dave is beginning to accept that it's driftwood after all, especially since 99% our friends agree with me on the gray!

We bought a new smoke detector the other day. It is really neat because it has an app which we put on the cell phone, so if we are away and the house catches fire, it will notify us. I tested it out to see if it really works the other day. I was making a cornstarch sauce for my rhubarb crisp and needed to go to the store for more ingredients. I forgot to turn off the burner and when I got back home, the stuff was burning away on the stove and the detector (and the phone) was letting us know! I was so mad that I did that and hopefully I will be able to clean my favorite sauce pan that I was using.

Goldfinches

They're back!! I heard the sweet little chirps of the Goldfinches at the feeders this week. The males are a bright yellow with black and they are one of my favorite birds. They should be here all summer and they bring a song to my heart with their sweet chirping. I haven't seen any hummingbirds for awhile. My neighbor Jim told me that when he ran out of bird syrup, he tried to make some more but found he also was without granulated sugar, so he used powdered sugar instead! He hasn't seen any since! I accused him of hummingbird homicide!

I haven't ranted for a while so I will warn you now - here it comes!.

Our attorney wanted us to update our trust and one of the items that we hadn't included on our list of assets was Dave's Ford. We didn't have any trouble getting the Jeep changed over, but we have clear title to that car. Anyway, we went to the DMV and were told that we needed to get the Credit Union to change to registration first. So we went to the Credit Union, got the paperwork and went back to the DMV. They told us that we needed the title to make that change. Well, WE don't have the title as we have a loan with the Credit Union and until it is paid off, THEY have the title. They won't change the name on the registration, even though it's just from us to our trust. So here we are between the DMV (rock) and the Credit Union (hard place), with the attorney right in the middle. We don't understand why the Credit Union cares what it says for registration, they are still getting their money each month!

I hope everyone has a nice Mother's Day. We will be going to Salem for a brunch with our gang on Mother's Day. We will also be celebrating some birthdays that are next week: Leslie's on May 11th, Jaysa's on May 12th and Jason's on May 13th.
