IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Winter is not going away without a fight! We have had some very stormy weather this week and Wednesday was one of the wildest rides we have had in a long time! We watched the weather station to see the winds gust up over 50 miles an hour! That was just before we lost power for three hours! It was a sleepless night, that's for sure with the wind howling and the rain pelting on the windows.

We were supposed to have our new front window installed this week and I managed to get the inside supports stained and the outside supports painted in anticipation of the event. But, after all of that, it wasn't going to happen because of our weather, so maybe next week. After I got through staining, I discovered that the exterior paint which I had on hand for the outside frame was bad, so I had to make a special trip to Warrenton to the Home Depot for another gallon of paint. While I was in the neighborhood, I stopped by the vision center and ordered my new eye glasses. I had had my eyes examined last week and my vision has changed. That cost an arm and leg by the time I get the progressive lenses, the transition to make the lens shade in the sunlight and all the other bells and whistles that go with buying a new pair of glasses. I don't have any insurance that will pay for any of it either. No wonder I only do this once every five years!

Ray

Leanna's project is moving along. Ray got the flooring ready for the vinyl to be installed, he also put in a new back door and as soon as he can, he will put in a newly acquired washer and dryer that was given to her. Then the storm door will be installed. So we are making a little headway at her place.

Not much to report on Dave's shingles - they have continued to give him a lot of discomfort. He went back to the doctor on Monday and got a new prescription for his pain. As a result, he has been sleeping a lot and hopefully that will lead to getting better. But this is going into week three with no noticeable improvement - at least that he can see. We were supposed to leave today to drive to Seattle for the Northwest Steam Society annual meeting and luncheon but decided to cancel as he is not ready to do the 5-hour drive up there plus we don't know how contagious he is. He was very disappointed about not being able to go.

I attended a Master Gardener's class on Weeds on Thursday. I now have the nine hours required of education for my re-certification. I still have to volunteer 30 hours from now until November. Speaking of volunteering, I helped with the Master Gardener's annual pruning day last Saturday. We go out in the community and help prune trees and shrubs for people who are unable to do it themselves. This year, I got on a crew and we went to Nehalem where I helped a friend of mine who is 92 years old with her yard. We thought that it would be raining and we would have to cancel but the weather gods provided sunshine for the few hours that we worked.

I have to brag about my granddaughter, Ashtin. Her basketball team at Silverton high school is competing in their division for the state championship. They won their first quarter final 44 to 22 against Bend. They haven't lost a game all season and so I am hoping they bring home the trophy. Because of her injury, she is unable to compete this season but she's still very much a part of the team. Except for when she was hospitalized, she hasn't missed a practice, workout or game. Go Foxes!

Don't forget to "Spring Forward" and set your clocks one hour ahead Saturday night.
