IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

Us

Because I had to prep all weekend for my colonoscopy (ugh), Dave took me out for a late Valentine's dinner on Monday. We had received a gift certificate from Des and Donna Kahrs for Christmas so we decided to try it out. It was at a place called Bridgewater Bistro located under the Astoria Bridge in Astoria and the food was wonderful. I would highly recommend this place if you are ever in Astoria.

Most of the week we have been watching it rain so have been concentrating on doing inside stuff. Dave has been busy organizing all my past journals dating back to when I first began in 2004. He has been having a lot of fun reading about what was happening in our lives for the past years. He is slowly working his way back to the beginning (He's back through 2009 right now) and if you have the time, they are available on the web site for your enjoyment. You can follow his progress by clicking on the "Archives" tab on the page.

After changing the light bulb in the bathroom, I decided it was time to do some spring cleaning. Looking from atop a ladder, you get a different perspective of what needs to be cleaned. A lot of dust had settled since the last time I tackled this job. The light fixture and ceiling fan were cleaned and then some mildew that had been forming around the upper walls near the ceiling got scrubbed. The bathroom could use a new paint job but I will save that for another rainy day. This all was because the light bulb needed changing!

I managed to get a half-hour work party on Wednesday at the Waterfront Park. We pruned and fertilized the roses between rain showers but finally quit early as we were all getting pretty soaked. The park is finally looking good after the December floods and Joe, our City Public Works guy, has been busy mending the paths that were pretty much destroyed by the water. Some of the spring bulbs that we planted last fall are starting to show their stuff too. We had our committee meeting on Thursday and two of us had our pictures taken to show the certificates of re-certification for Master Gardeners. This is something that we do each year by volunteering to help on different projects for the Master Gardener's program. For example, I spent a couple of hours on Tuesday, helping to wash and sterilize pots (we cleaned over 2500 pots) to be used to grow plants for our next plant sale in May. We have to have 30 hours of volunteering to get re-certified.

Ray

Dave and our friend Ray started the project over at Leanna's place this week. She has to have her utility room and part of the kitchen redone because of water damage from the water heater and outside rains that leaked through the back door. We are waiting for bids now on floor coverings and ordering a new water heater and storm door. I'll be posting pictures from time to time to record the progress.

Also, our project at our house has started also. We have to have one of the large front windows replaced and the framing around the bottom of the window has rotted so that has to be done also. Paul came by and measured the window this week. Now we are waiting on the window people to come by and look at the window before they can replace it because it has to be made special. If the material for the framing arrives, I will be busy staining that so that raw edges of the wood won't show after it has been installed.

It is off to Salem on Saturday to help celebrate my son-in-law's mother's birthday. They are having a birthday party and we have been invited. We will probably spend the night and come back home on Sunday.
