IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

collage

It's been another busy week and with all the nice weather we were blessed with, I managed to get outside and do some weed spraying in the driveway and paths. That pesky Bitter Crest has begun to grow. It is such a nuisance and if I let it flower and go to seed, I really have a mess to contend with. They are the ones that when you touch them, the seeds go flying. Anyway, it is beginning to look a lot like spring out there. I have a few daffodils in bloom, some sweet smelling daphne showing off and of course primroses. I also managed to get my greenhouse cleaned up a bit and moved some plants that are safe enough to be moved outside.

We broke down and bought a new mattress a couple of weeks ago and they delivered it last Saturday. We just bought one a year ago and as strange is it seems, it was TOO soft. Sleeping on it was OK, but if we tried to roll over or get up, it was like trying to maneuver in quicksand! No matter how hard we'd try, we just couldn't move around on it. The new one is an extra firm, and after a couple of days trying to get used to it, we think it's going to work out much better. I hope so.

In spite of the new mattress, I haven't been sleeping well these last couple of days. I managed to get my sinuses worked up and they have caused some irritation in my throat which makes me cough at night. So while I am awake, my mind is busy thinking of projects that need to get done around here. Dave hates it when that happens because he says the projects always involve him! This time, it was tackling the garage. It was getting so piled up with "stuff" and I needed his help to go through it all. After one garbage can full of trash and a trunk-load to take to the recycle, the garage looks a lot better. Hard to tell from these photos, but it really DOES look better! I'm not done - I still have to go through all the many paint cans and spray cans to decide which to keep and which to take to the hazardous waste.

Over the weekend, our 10-year old granddaughter Jaysa had another gymnastics competition. She finished up with a fantastic second place in the vault and took 5th place overall. In her first performance about a week ago, she placed 10th, so she is quickly getting better and better. We absolutely have to attend one of these performances to watch her in person. We are so proud of her and glad that she is enjoying this activity. She just loves her gymnastics.

AJ's PT

Speaking of granddaughters, our oldest - Ashtin - is recovering from her ALC surgery well enough that she been given the okay to drive. So to celebrate, the family invested in a nice car for her. She has a cousin who wanted to sell her PT Cruiser and it sounded perfect for Ashtin, so she now has her own car and her mother was able to reclaim hers. Sounds like a win-win for everyone!

We did manage to go to a stage performance in Tillamook last weekend. It was called "Rumors" by Neil Simon and it was so funny. We were laughing so hard we cried! We are so fortunate to have local theaters with so many talented people in our area. We really enjoyed going and having a night out for a change instead of staying home and watching TV. After all, one needs to be sociable once in a while!

Dave finally gave into the razor and shaved off his beard that he has been growing for the past couple of months. I think what made him decide to shave it off was all the comments he received from his granddaughters. They tried to be nice but they did not like his beard one bit. It took me awhile to get used to it myself but I am glad it is gone also.

We had a guy come by and measure one of our front windows this week. It needed to be replaced because the seal had broken, letting moisture in between the two pieces of glass. Also, there was a big scratch on it where the ladder had fallen on it during a wind storm. Luckily, it fell on the same window that needed to be replaced. We also have to replace all the wooden framing around the window because of water and insect damage. I also had a guy come by and look at our place to have it repainted this summer. It looks like maybe May or June, depending on the weather for that job. I guess this is the year to get some of these maintenance projects done around here.

The only thing happening next week is that I have to go in and have a colonoscopy. Not something that I love doing, but it is time. So Monday, I'll be doing that.
