IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

October is upon us and the weather has been changing to autumn and I can feel it in the air with the warm days and chilly nights. As we were driving over the Coast Range yesterday, we could see the trees already changing to their bright colors. The harvest moon and lunar eclipse were fantastic this week. I hope you were able to see them.

We had some friends over for dinner on Saturday night. It was a thank you to them for giving us so much information on Paris before we left on our trip. They had told us about the ins and outs of the city and gave us maps and guidelines. I think France was one of those places where we felt the most intimated - because we don't speak French and were depending on public transportation to get us around. For dinner, I cooked fresh salmon and roasted some garden vegetables with a spinach pear salad. She is gluten-free so I had to really plan out the menu. They brought the wine and we had a great evening sharing our traveling experiences.

Also found out that our oldest granddaughter who turned 16 in August had her very first date. She was invited to the homecoming dance by a very nice young man. It hardly seems like she is old enough to be dating but I guess you just can't stop the clock. She had a great time but I have to tell you first how he asked her. He approached the teacher in one of their classes and asked that she give Ashtin a note from him. Ashtin read the note which was asking her attend the dance with him. After that, he presented her with a bouquet of roses! I was really impressed that guys still do that sort of thing. Anyway, she had a great time at the dance.

On a much more serious note, this same granddaughter plays on the Silverton High School varsity soccer team and was playing a game in Eugene a week ago when she was injured. She didn't know for several days how serious the injury was, but we found out late last night that an MRI showed that she has a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament in her right knee and will have to have surgery. The surgery will probably be early next week and Ashtin will be out of action for the remainder of the soccer season and most likely the basketball season as well. She is - of course - very upset by this news, but I'm sure she will work hard on her recovery.

Sunday, I asked the temporary summer helper who works for the city if he would mind coming down to my place and clear the blackberry bushes and brush from around the church. That was his last week of work because the city can't afford to keep him during the winter months. He is really reliable and didn't mind at all. Besides, he could use the extra money. He was done in no time at all and I told him that I would make sure the word got around that he is available for extra work. It is really hard to find good reliable help around here.

All week, Dave has been driving back and forth to Beaverton for his radiation treatments. This is week two - three and a half more to go. He is doing pretty well but the tiredness finally caught up with him this week. I went with him on Thursday because that is the day the doctor checks to see how he is doing. We spent Thursday night in town as he has another appointment at 9:00 a.m. Friday. Since it is a five hour round trip each day, he thought that he would get some audio books to help him while he is driving so he will check the library out for some of those books.

I also worked in the park this week with the rest of the volunteers. A couple of weeks ago, we had our park welcome sign removed to have refurbished. It was getting a little weather beaten from all the rain we get. The lady who did the art work on the sign brought it back to us on Wednesday and we helped put it back up. It sure looks great. A bunch of us spend a couple of hours each Wednesday up at the park, pulling weeds and pruning if it isn't raining. We sure do get a lot of compliments on how nice it looks.
