IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

anniversary

Last Friday, Dave and I went to our favorite restaurant, the Terra Cotta Cafe in Manzanita for a cozy dinner to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. Then on Sunday, we got together with the family and some friends for a small celebration in Oregon City at the Stone Cliff Inn. It was a lovely place overlooking the Clackamas River and we ate outdoors. We received so many nice cards from people congratulating us on our achievement.

I think everything is back to normal with our daily routines. I managed to get my yard back in shape (it took me about a week) after the wind storm we had had. I now have a full trailer of yard debris to take to the dump. I also managed to get my dirty windows cleaned and I even planted some daffodil bulbs and got some fertilizer on some stressed plants from the hot summer that we had. It looks like just about all of them are going to pull through, although I am going to have to pay extra attention to some of them.

I am still trying to coax my birds back. So far, only the Blue Jays, Pigeons and a squirrel have re-appeared. Apparently, the house sitter didn't bother to put out seed for the birds and they all flew away. I enjoy watching the wild life and hopefully they will return. It is between seasons and they might have flown south for the winter. I will see if any of my "winter" birds show up this fall.

Last Monday, it was back to the pool after a long absence and it felt good to be back in the water and exercising again. All my swimming buddies were glad to see me and wanted to know all about my trip. We lost one of our friends from cancer over the summer so there is an empty spot in the pool and I miss her not being there. Most of the people aren't back yet, as this was a "make-up" week because the pool was down for a week during the summer session for repairs. The fall season actually starts this next Monday.

Dave and I have been "juicing" this week. I received a juicer for my birthday and hadn't started using it until I returned. Lara gave me her favorite recipe she uses which consists of kale, celery, cucumber, lemon, apple and special "miracle seeds". It is suppose to be a cancer prevention drink and it tastes pretty good and seems to be satisfying. So instead of a sandwich for lunch, we each have our juice drink.

pasties

I also got brave and made the pasties (say PASS-tees) that I fell in love with while I was in England. I had some left over roast beef, potatoes and carrots, threw in some onions and a little gravy, put it all in a pastry and baked it. Not quite the same as I remembered from England - but close enough. It is a real good way to use leftovers.

Next week is the start of Dave's radiation treatments. His first appointment is on Monday afternoon in Beaverton. We are planning on driving into town on Sunday afternoon to watch our granddaughter Paige play in a soccer game and then spend the night. The treatment only takes about 20 minutes and then we will drive back home. We plan on driving back and forth each day for most of the week. Thursday we plan to spend the night as we hope to have a treatment first thing in the morning on Friday so we can head back home for the weekend. At least that's the plan for right now. We won't know for certain until his first appointment when we set the schedule. This will continue for five weeks.

Egret

The fishermen are still fishing out in the river and the bay. Dave counted over 50 boats in front of our place one day. They seem to be doing pretty good because just about every time we look out the window it seems someone is landing a big salmon. They are not the only ones catching fish as Dave took a picture of this Egret along the shore trying to catch his dinner too. We often see those beautiful white birds over on the island but it's rare that we seem them on our side of the river.
