IT'S FRIDAY, MY FAVORITE DAY!!

I am writing this entry a couple of days early as we are heading into town for a few days.

Flags

It was a great Memorial Day weekend with Lara and her family arriving on Friday night and staying until Monday. The granddaughters got up early on Saturday morning and helped their granddad put the flags up along the streets in Wheeler. This is a tradition that has been going on since we have moved here over ten years ago. Afterwards, he treated them to doughnuts from the local bakery - which made their day. I had fixed breakfast for them but by the time they got home, their appetites where gone from the treat they received. Thanks, Granddad.

The weather wasn't the best, it sprinkled a little and it was cloudy but by the afternoons it was nice and sunny. They headed up to Seaside, went to the beach and since the water was a little cold, they decided to go swimming at our local pool in Nehalem. We had pizza at one of our favorite places while they were down. I had them do a little yard work while they were here. Their father pruned my flowering cherry tree and discovered that it has a blight. The girls picked up the pruned branches and put them in the compost pile. Jaysa found one branch and with her wild imagination decided that the branch made perfect antlers! What a character. Jordyn was sort of limited with her broken elbow, but she doesn't have to wear a cast, just a sling and has been doing some physical therapy to strengthen it and add flexibility. All three girls pitched in to care for Leanna's dog.

Pizza

The reason they had to watch the dog was that Dave had to take Leanna to Tillamook to the emergency room Saturday afternoon. She had had a liver biopsy a couple of weeks ago and was still in a lot of pain. After they took a CT scan and checked her out, they put her in an ambulance for St. Vincent Hospital in Beaverton. She had a procedure on Tuesday to try to remove what they thought were some stones that were in her liver but the doctors had to stop because they had cut into an artery, causing her to hemorrhage. They placed her into Intensive Care overnight and we found out later on Wednesday that it was real life-threatening situation. They discovered she has a lot of scar tissue from a previous ulcer and so now they will have to wait six weeks before trying the procedure again. She is still in the hospital and we don't know when she will be able to come home.

Meanwhile, on Thursday we went into Portland for Dave's oncologist appointment for his 3-month check-up. This check up is for the Lymphoma that he had. Then he goes back in on Monday for a procedure on his prostate for him to get ready for his radiation treatment when he returns from our vacation in September. It seems like there is always something going on.

While I am in town this time, I plan on getting caught up with my granddaughter's birthday which was on May 12th. Jaysa turned ten and we will to do some belated shopping and then out to dinner at the Red Robin.

So that has been the events of my week!
